Haven't been on here is a while.  My sailor is on shore duty for another 7 months. He and his wife welcomed their first child, a son on July 21st. He was almost 2 months early but very healthy and only in the hospital for about 3 weeks. He is home and growing like a "weed" as they say.

My husband and I will be visiting the beginning of November to meet our 1st grandchild for the first time.  I can hardly wait to get there.

We used VRBO to find a house to stay in as my sailor does not have room for us.  We were very surprised at the cost.... no more expensive than a decent hotel room. We won't be renting a car as my son has one we can use and we will only be a mile away from their home.
This will be our 3rd trip; my sailor has been there for almost 8 years now. It's a beautiful place to visit.

I hope all of your sailors are doing well.

A friend and I will be traveling to HI in early Nov to visit. I am also wanting to get a card ministry going for those deployed or maybe even for those who are stationed in HI. It would be a great morale booster to send nice hand made cards to loved ones at home. And those receiving them would also treasure them. Think moms, you could read a handwritten note from your son/daughter when you are having a "miss you" day!!!

tysmom - If I remember correctly it was right around $3000 for 12 days.  I joked that we had spent nearly $6700 and hadn't even left Atlanta when I booked the flights and house.

Aloha! My son is home for a much needed R and R time. The work on his boat has been rigorous, one leave was canceled, lots of tests they has to pass as a boat. Golf with family, picnic with extended family, target practicing, sleep, making memories.

Pam:How much did it cost to rent a two bedroom house? We stayed right on the Marine base, found it quite convenient.

Sailormom89 - my son was six hours ahead of us when he was in Italy and now six hours behind us in Hawaii.  I feel your pain!  There is so much to see and do on Oahu you will not get bored.

I'm new to this site too. My sailor just got orders to K-bay. I'll be looking for recommendations on where to stay and things to do. Not excited about the time difference; six hours as I'm on the east coast and we talk daily. Very excited to visit though.
