My heart aches for that soldier's family killed today in Ottawa, while guarding the WWI memorial......God rest his brave soul...❤

tysmom - I feel your pain.  When my parents passed away within 14 months of one another we were left with the clean-up of 40 years of marriage.  A lot can be accumulated during that time.

The Holidays are coming and we are hoping to see our Sailor home for the first time in two years!  He's only got a little more than a year left in Hawaii.  The time has flown.  Not sure if he will re-enlist or get out right now, but he has time.

My kitchen was started 1 1/2 years ago by my oldest son....he kinda quit doing it....he took the cupboards to his house...did not exactly get them done....I decided to retire after 40 years at Blodgett Hospital. Since I am not real great at painting I started with my sons bedroom...and the floors (we have real wood floors)...then my bedroom... thought is: that I will get better the more I do..I may not like it any better....

And then there is all the stuff that needs to be gone through...yup I am a messy....got a dumpster in June....threw out stuff....I am a child of Depression Era parents and you did not throw things out....I sat by our fire pit and burned a lot too....had to look through it one more time...but I am getting ur done!!!

tysmom, I'm right there with you!!!  We just finished re-doing our kitchen cabinets and I was never so happy to put all that stuff away!!!  We had the doors on saw horses in the kitchen nook area.  We sent our table up to Utah for our daughter so it was empty space, and at the time it was over 100 outside, even hotter in the garage!!!  Am so sick of "house" projects!!  I bet yours will look very nice though!

I got the painting job done for today. The cupboard doors are on my floor on plastic in my bedroom. I think things are falling from the ceiling on them.....I took off my sandals and there is a small piece of grass on my cupboard ahhhhhh....these are my kitchen cupboards..I do not have my fan on so nothing is blowing around...I put the paint and brush away and already had to take it out to fix a where I had a hair or something on them...I do not think I will take up painting for a retirement job....

Painting and me do not get along. At all.  Haha, in fact my husband won't even let me put a brush in my hand!  I love a new, fresh coat of paint though so he is kept busy.  We are playing the airfare game right now for Christmas.  My son has 14 months left in HI and I really, really, really hope he can get a little closer to the East Coast next time!  I told him I would pay for his ticket to come home at Christmas since he will not be deployed this year, but jeez to fly from Honolulu to home on the East Coast is outrageous. Oh well.... I know it will be worth it!

Everything has to be working on the ships, boats and they have to do the test runs....

There is a wonderful organization that hand creates cards to deployed service members. They are beautiful! I make cards for them also. These cards are for the service members to send home, love, missing you, birthday....my desire is to have each ship and sub have a box or two to send to loved ones back home. I am working on it. It is called Operation Write Home. I am hoping to be able to get in touch with each ombudsman to get these cards in our deployed military personnel's hands.

Do ships have ombudsman's??? I just do not know.....

Yes Kevsmom there should be a joke in there somewhere...she also chewed a hole in the air mattress,,,,but that was after it was deflating on its own...something about Josh's stuff.

Airfare is cheaper through the middle of Nov...people wait till the holidays and then the prices skyrocket... ProudNM I keep track of prices though several diff online groups....Delta and United have ok deals right now, but I cannot book anything  nor would I until I hear from my son. He was real upset over his leave...it was changed....

Time to paint...put music on...and paint...painting is not my favorite job...can you tell???

Hi tysmom sounds like your having a load of fun at your house! You'll be enjoying all your beautiful handy work in time for the holidays :-) There's got to be a joke in there somewhere with the dog, the boy and the mattresses but I'm not that witty...lol.

You're right about working together they do the same on the ships with the Sailors and Marines on their pre-deployments. My son who's a Marine is doing that right now with his MEU.

Big Hug to you too ProudNavyMom#1!!

My sailor got his Dolphins at the beginning of his first deployment about 1 1/2 years ago. The Navy has sent him to school several times since then. The last one when I was in HI in May.

Underways are in preparation for deployment. Everyone has to learn how to work tog.

I am working on a huge house project,  I have wood floors and I am revarnishing them. I am repainting the woodwork. And we have to live here at the same time. I did take everything out of another sons bedroom. He had to sleep on an air mattress in the dining room. We have a naughty dog who chewed holes in his mattress. And regular life goes on. I have a partial goal to be done by Nov.

Aloha tysmom! You must be writing your emails to him already! God bless him and may he and all in his boat have a safe journey and what an awesome opportunity to get his fish!!!
Here is a link to airfarewatchdog.com that will alert you of great flights and prices. I hope you get this and share with your son. You know how they are about letting us know they are mature men taking care of their own stuff. I got this mom HAHAHAHA :) I'm so proud of my son and all our boys! God bless us all. Happy Sundsy evening!! Big hug!!!
