https://www.facebook.com/pages/USS-OKane-DDG-77/162224927130321 LI -- found the facebook page for the OKane....neat stuff and photos about their recent deploy....good one for you to follow and maybe get some questions answered too? Soon you'll be 'all salty' and 'seasoned' about deployments too :-)

LI fill out customs with: 4 breakfast bars next line:1 pkg gum next line:2pair black socks, next line: 1 green notebook Etc, press hard & use another sheet if needed. Estimate the price..$1 each is what I filled in-easy to add up. Fill out the address at 'to' & 'from'. Post office will fill in the weight. Seal it up good, it can get really bounced around. Pack it full! Tuck a note in a corner♥ stuff his fav snacks-- Jelly beans, licorice, health bars, cookies, Easter peeps, crackers, beef jerky, no chocolate-- it can be a melty mess. find your Ombudsman on the ship website or facebook page. Write to their email addy, introduce yourself mentioning your son's name/rate & ask to be included in all correspondence for families. I keep a world map to follow my son's travels, he's been around the world 3 times and Loves deployment!

Dana i ordered the boxes when my son was in boot camp and they are the different sizes with tape but i don't have lables i did get the forms from the post office today Im just not sure how to idemize them. I never did get to send him stuff cause they told us no in bootcamp.Pam it is a military he deployed on the 7th thanks for letting me know ladies Im so lost with this stuff.

Ll - you can use either one.  I've had both and used the FPO / APO when my son was stationed in Italy.  If it's a military address it will more than likely have an FPO or and APO.  If it's to an actual address, then just use the zip code.

LI mom, you can use any priopity flat rate box. The large size does come with the FPO/APO on it but it's not the only one you can use. The Flat rate for FPO/APO in the large size has a discount price for military mail and even another discount if you use Click n' Ship online with USPS (the post office) The box doesn't have to be the one with the printed FPO/APO on it but they do have them. You can also get them sent to you for free from the post office. There is also a Military Kit but you have to call for it. 1-800-610-8734. It's several size boxes, tape, labels, custom forms. It's free and you can order more than one.

LI:  are you also "linked in" with the ombudsman via email for their newsletters, deployment updates, and general announcements about his ship?  That will be very helpful..(love love Ombudsman program!) .my son's ombudsmans often included photos, current news and best way to ship goodies to them too.

LI: good question....overseas FPO/APO, I just used the normal flat rate box, any size and filled out the customs forms etc, paid postage, and the clerk shipped it for me. I don't remember seeing a FPO/APO box at my post office.  not much help...sorry.  anybody else?  If it's to Hawaii?? and to his Squadron(FPO/APO) it could take FOREVER! grumble....But I have done that too, with normal flat rate boxes to the Squadron address on the island. I was glad when he got an apt....mail was then delivered in a week that way, even the flat rate boxes.
