I'm sad to hear of those who have DOR. I have been holding my breath each time I hear from my son. So far I believe there is 17 guys left and graduating in 1 week. I know it has been really tough for my son. He commented yesterday (on his 19th b-day) that this was going to be the best b-day ever. I'll won't be relieved until after the grad ceremony next week.

Pam - I am so sorry to hear about your son. I will be praying for him and the others who have had to DOR. They should be so proud of themselves for getting as far as they have. I am proud of all the sailors who are in our great Navy. I will be praying for your son to heal quickly and that he will like his career in the Navy. I have worried about my son's physical ability since he joined, he is also a small guy but like your son he will give it all he has. I am and will always be proud of him no matter what happens. You have been a great help for me and I wish you and your son all the best. God bless.

My son was medically dropped from the SWCC program today. He is injured to the degree that he will not be able to perform any activities with the exception of light limited duty for 6 months. After that time, he will be assigned a job and moved to a ship. Four other guys DORed today. I am sad but proud. It is the end of a life long dream for my son but he went out giving it 150%. I love you all. Pam

Good Morning...we lost five more of our guys yesterday. I did not mean to sound harsh yesterday about the DOR's, but it can and it does happen to some amazing sailors. Some of those guys Moms are our members on here and I have known them since day one of boot camp. One was already chosen as a boat leader, one had the fastest times of any of our guys, another had gone through surgery, etc....so it happens to really great soldiers. And the truth is by the end of this very day, my son may no longer be among this group. The original ladies of this group know that my son is one of the smallest and the slowest. He suffered yet another injury yesterday and after talking to him last night I had a better understanding of why some of the guys drop. He told me that during a buddy saving evolution where he was drowned by an instructor he realized that though this is training they are preparing for real life and had it been a real life event not only would he be dead, but he would not have been able to save his buddy. Mentally it took a huge toll on him and other guys as well. SWCC is difficult-only a few survive for a reason. While my heart is heavy this morning, I hope the guys that left feel proud of themselves for trying. As a Mom I know it is not easy to think that your son may not survive, but I also know that I am already proud of my son for the person he has become in life-making SWCC would be the icing on the cake, but I could not be any prouder of him than I already am for the great person he has become. For all you Moms whose sons/husbands have gone on to find their new Navy career may God bless you and your families and keep your heads held high. I love you all very much.

Good Morning Ladies!!! Another day down and survived for those in BCT!!! No one dropped yesterday!!! My son said it was not good but not as bad as they all thought. I couldn't help but read the discussion about DOR. Let me assure you it can happen to any one when you least expect it. None of the 11 guys who have dropped from our group were already in the Navy...all of them came straight out of boot camp, so that theory is not always true. There are alot of reasons they DOR. A major factor is physical limitations. Jill-B you are right-statisically only 1 in four make it, but some classes do have a much higher success rate while the class a few months ago only had 4 out of 35 who made it. I think they all have a period of time when they doubt themselves. My son has wanted this since he was 8 years old but he realistically knows that it just isn't for every one. He seems to realize his weaknessess, but tries to focus on his strengths. They rely a lot on each other to pull them up and through on those days when they start to have the little nagging doubts. As one Mom said to me-this ain't always fun!!! lol! I pray daily for ALL the guys and I have also learned to pray that when/if the time comes for them to make the DOR decision they can do it with the honor and pride they deserve for trying. Every class is different so I just continually pray that the rest of our guys make it and that the ones who left us are placed where they will be safe and happy. Have a great day everyone!!! GO NAVY!!!

Hi Jill-B - I will definitely be praying for all the guys. My son was also a little worried about the dropout rate. He was told by another SWCC guy this weekend that most of the guys that drop are already in the Navy. They want to see if they can do it and then they realize that it's not worth it to them and then try to go back to what they were already doing for the Navy. This information made my son feel a little better about the high dropout rate.

I found information on SWCC on the same SEAL site that I mentioned earlier. It's pretty interesting.
