MominPA, Hi & Welcome! My son PIR'd on 9/2 & has been "across the street" at GL since then. I believe he had to wait 2 wks before he was able to wear civilian clothes. I brought him a few things when we went for his PIR, since then I have mailed a couple small boxes of the clothes he requested. I wouldn't send too much tho because remember, they have to fit everything they have in their Seabag & that includes their various uniforms. Hope that helps! Have a good day!

Hi! I'm new to the group. My son's bootcamp PIR is in October. When he moves "across the street" at GL, are they at any time during that training allowed to wear civilian clothes? If so I want to bring him some when I go to PIR.

BECAUSE THEY ARE SO FAR AWAY, PLEASE LOVE AND GUIDE THEM NIGHT AND DAY.WHEN THINGS GET HARD AND DAYS ARE LONG, SHOW THEM YOUR LOVE TO KEEP THEM STRONG.WHEN THE DAY IS OVER AND THE NIGHT TIME COMES, ALWAYS LET THEM KNOW WE ARE SO PROUD OF THEM. pahoapam you are so right. My son PIR'd on June 25th. and has been in Coronado for 5 weeks. He just started BCT this week and they had a Navy SEAL instructor tell his class that they want all of them to succeed and that SWCC was more Elite then the SEAL's right now because there are only about 700 SWCC guys. The SWCC instructor's have been hard on the guys but they are also encouraging them. They told my son that they really like his group they want all of them to make it to CQT.

Hi Kelly and welcome. I don't know how to describe the level of support...I think that they just need you to be understanding and supportive no matter what they are saying and feeling. I do want to say this...SWCC is not what most of us think. I am sure you have heard that they play mind games, but not in the way we have been conditioned to think. I can assure you that they will do everything they can to keep your sailor in there. When a guy DORs they talk to them for a long time and when they need extra help or encouragement they will offer it. Through my son's experience the only guys that were "pushed" out were guys who weren't team players. That "I can do it by myelf" attitude will sink them faster than anything! Being a team player is necessarry not optional. My son was one of the smallest, weakest, slowest guys in his group, but he hung in there and they did everything they could to help him. It is not only physically demanding in ways they can't imagine, it is mentally challenging. a lot of guys drop out in the pool!!! Being drowned and fighting for your life in water is no easy task. I remember my son telling me that the worst "head game" was realizing one day during an exercise that not only would he have drowned but he was unable to save his buddy. It took a toll on him. Again, I am not trying to be discouraging in fact I am encouraging you ladies to understand the difference between SWCC and boot camp and just to inspire you to listen to your sailor and try and support their thoughts, fears and accomplishments. I wish lots of luck to all of them and pray for them daily. Thank you for you kind thoughts on me seeing my kids. I am so pumped up and excited!!! Love to all! Pam

pahoapam, Good Morning & Thank you for all the great info! You mention here that the level of support they need from us will change once they head to San Diego...I'm assuming you mean they will need more support and encouragement, am I right? I am learning as we go here & want to do whatever it takes to be there for our son through the next phase of training. That is so great that all three of you will be together out in SD, so happy for you! Congratulations on losing 35 lbs too, I'm sure both your kids will be excited to see you! Hug's to you!
