OPSEC - Navy Operations Security
Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

About the HM Rate, HM Rating Card/navy.mil, Overview from navylive.dodlive.com, and Navy Medicine Almanac 2015 p. 28-29.
PROGRAM DURATION: The actual time that a Sailor physically spends at the HM school in Fort Sam Houston, TX is 96 days. The Sailor is in the seat, learning, Mondays through Fridays for 70 actual instructional days. The course covers emergency medical technician training, nursing skills, knowledge specific to the Navy Hospital Corps, and clinicals.

GRADUATION SCHEDULE: your sailor is your best source for date, time and any changes. Basic Medical Technician Corpsman Program on Facebook is NOT an official page, but they do post some photos of graduations.
Read this to find out What is Field Medical Training Battalion (FMTB)? (They have a great graduation ceremony for families to attend, too!) Most corpsmen attend FMTB sooner (straight from A School) or later. It does NOT mean that they will necessarily be assigned to a Marine Corps unit.

Females go to FMTB-East only. Otherwise, it's up to the needs of the Navy as to which location a Corpsman is sent to.

Corpsmen serve in a variety of settings. "Blueside" corpsmen serve in hospitals and clinics and on ships. "Greenside" corpsmen are with forward-deployed Marine units and where one can earn the hard-won and highly valued Fleet Marine Force (FMF) qualification. There is nothing like the love that Marines have for their "Doc." Seriously.
Hospital Corpsman Navy Enlisted Classifications (NECs) - There are 38 - thirty-eight! - specialties within the HM rating, from Search & Rescue (8401) to Dental Lab Tech/Maxillofacial (8765). Here is a list of HM NECs and C school locations.
Rating/Rate in ascending order:
HR: Hospitalman Recruit (E-1); HA: Hospitalman Apprentice (E-2); HN: Hospitalman (E-3); HM3: Hospital Corpsman 3rd Class (E-4); HM2: Hosp. Corpsman 2nd Class (E-5); HM1: Hospital Corpsman 1st Class (E-6); HMC: Chief Hospital Corpsman (E-7); HMCS: Senior Chief Hospital Corpsman (E-8); HMCM: Master Chief Hospital Corpsman (E-9).

HM247365 - Hopefully some moms with Sailors currently at A School can give you some guidance! Moms of current students, did your Sailor fly out of O'Hare to San Antonio, and on what day?
HMMomNC - best to ask your Sailor directly. Note that most future corpsmen prefer not to receive care packages, as picking them up is a pain, and whatever you send has to be packed in a seabag or shipped at the end of A School, also a pain. So check before you mail anything! :)
Toni: your future corpsman will have the rating HM - there is neither green nor blue added as a "rating." I'm not aware that one can have a definite commitment to a C School prior to completing A School. What C School are you talking about? (Note that Field Medical Training Battalion is not a C School.) Greenside is a term corpsmen use to indicate assigned to Marines; Blueside is for those assigned to ships, hospitals, clinics.

You may notice I call a A School student "future corpsman," "student" or "Sailor" because they aren't a Navy hospital corpsman until they complete A School and graduate. Corpsmen are VERY picky about this, and will straighten out anyone calling themselves "corpsman" until they have graduated A School. Just a heads-up. (And per the U.S. Navy, the word Sailor is always with a capital S unless referring to foreign navies.)

Hello, my son has a PIR of 6/2/17 his rating is HM green. After A school he will do C school and then he will go to North Carolina for infantry. Any one out there with the same rating?

Greetings all. We have a SR presently set to OUR June 23, 2017. We are trying to make our PIR travel plans and as would like some input. Do most new Sailors going to HM school "semi-normally" fly out of O`Hara and on Saturdays? We understand anything is possible just trying to gather some stats. Thanks in advance

Etrueblue25, check out ihg army hotels joint base San Antonio. You can book as a civilian traveling for leisure (or at least that's how I booked when my Sailor was there).
