Hello gals! Hope you are all enjoying the break from the blistering hot weather. I know I am. Hope you all have a great weekend.

Fancy Nancy, I agree. I can't even begin to think about how his mother must be dealing with this. You send your child off to the Navy and then hold your breath till they come home on leave, just to lose them at a local movie theater to some maniac with an automatic gun in each hand. Senseless, and horrific for his family.

I am still feeling very torn up about the loss of John Larimer, the sailor who was killed at the movie theater.  It hit me really hard because he is from the town just east of here and now that my son is in the Navy, I feel like we have lost a member of our extended family.  Our local paper said that a military honor group is escorting him to Crystal Lake from O'Hare Airport today.  The wake is today and the private funeral and burial are tomorrow.  My heart just aches for his family.

Hey did anyone go to the Gary Sinse concert this last weekend? If so, how was it?  I'd like to go sometime, just not when it's so hot!!  LOL

Good Morning all. I hope everyone tries to stay cool today. We have another excessive heat warning today, so staying inside is in the cards today. I am meeting one of our awesome IL Navy Moms today for lunch, so good food, and good company for me, and in air conditioning for sure {:oD

Have a great Navy Day all {:oD

Oh, and have him check NavyDEP.com and there is a facebook page for the September shippers.  http://www.facebook.com/groups/115640115236338/ OMG, this page was a godsend when my husband was in.  Ours was May Shippers 2012.  It's actually made for the soon-to-be recruits to get to know each other before going to boot, but us family members left behind took it over while they were gone.  And week by week in late June, early July, the recruits-now-Sailors started coming back and sharing their experiences and reconnecting.  I didn't join until after they had left, but they all seemed amazing when they came back.  Proud, Strong, Excited for what's next.  Maybe if he connects with some other in the same boat (oops, pun) it'll help.

My hubby just finished bootcamp (last Friday graduated! yay!)  He said bootcamp wasn't so bad.  You just do what you're told and you'll be fine.  What is he specifically scared about?  That would help.  Some things my hubby said:  "bootcamp is just a filter, it's a lot of artificial stress to make sure everyone can handle it" "All the folding and perfection they demand is just to make sure you pay attention to the details."  I think my husband would probably be willing to call him.  He's at Great Lakes for A School right now.  He said the absolute worst part was being away from family.  We have a now 7 month old baby that he had to leave behind.  He has also come out with some good friends and a definite difference in him.  He's the same old Nick, but somehow...  better.

I think my husband's recruiter told him that he has until he ships out to back out.  Once they start paying you a salary (which starts the day you leave) you are stuck.  If he goes in, hook up with the callsforrecruits.com guy and put his recruit address on the list.  He'll get lots of mail and that will also help him get through it, knowing so many people are cheering him on.  It's only 2 months.  It seems like forever when it's happening, but it will definitely pass.  then the fun part comes!

Zach's mom if you need help convincing him that Corpsman is the way to go holler at me. My son loves being a corpsman. Maybe I can help. Might even be able to get the two of them talking. He is a greenside corpsman so he can give that perspective of being a Corpsman. I hope that all of this helps. I know that it is just as scarey for them going in as it is for us moms. Everyone is right though about having him talk with his recruiter. Maybe he can talk to other guys and gals that are about to go in also. The other DEPers in your area. They might be able to help out also. Good luck.

My husband was a recruiter, then processing officer for the navy in boston. He had also been real navy, which most recruiters had not at that time, there are such a thing as career recruiter. He has always been very honest with any young man or woman that was thinking about it. My son lived the life of a navy brat, and now in himself. He still get to feeling unwell the closer they got to bc lol. As he said, the gates of hell, but he has some awesome stories and funny ones too, from bc and loves his life. He is Aviation, and passed his 2 years in last month. We are here for your family if you want the help, just let me know {:oD
