Thanks for the welcome. Well, we dropped Matt at the recruiting office this am. By now, he's probably in St Louis at the hotel before MEPS tomorrow am. I had to fight back the tears when I hugged & kissed him goodbye. It made it a lot easier when he smiled at me & told me, "I'm gonna be fine." Now I'm sitting in the family room watching the Blind Side & reading N4Ms postings trying to fight back the tears...without much success. It's only been a couple of hours, but it's knowing that this is the 1st step of the rest of his new life.

Carol, he chose to go through Springfield recruiting station. He has to be there before 12:00 Monday.

Be sure and ACTIVATE his phone card before he goes! Otherwise, he'll lose precious time doing so.
Would love lunch again!

Carol, Thanks for the info. His recruiter told him not to bring his cell phone. He has a phone card. He'll be wearing his glasses. Maybe we can get together for lunch again some time...

Dodi--our son didn't tell us we could go to MEPS and see him sworn in.
They ended up taking a bus up to Great Lakes. At that time you could not have a cell phone, but I've heard some say thay can take them as far as GL, then ship them home after the "I'm here" call. If so, just have him take the battery out and put it in one shoe, and the phone in the other. Maybe send him with two ziplock bags to put them in. (Our son's clothes were soaking wet when we got them.) And, if he wears contacts, have him wear his glasses instead. It's the 72 hours of staying up when he gets there that will make the contacts hurt.

It's been so long since I've talked with a boot camp Mom. We're here for yoU!

Well, time is definitely drawing nearer. We're taking him to his recruiting station in Springfield on Monday. He'll be at BC on Tues then eventually Goose Creek. He's pretty excited about leaving.
