Linda - I'm game for a meet and greet. I think that would be fun, not to mention all the information the two of you would have. Let me know when and where.
Have a great week.
Laura, that is great! I will put the packing party on my calendar and hope to make it. I think my son is coming home right around then, so if I can't make it, that is why. I'm sure your going to have great sucess! Good Luck!
Pat & Linda - Hello!!!! What a small world!!! Yes, I am "new" to this group. My Grandson had PIR on 10/5/12 and is now in A school in San Antonio. He starts classes tomorrow to be a corpsman and wants to make it a career. Time will tell.
I have been "lurking" and really don't have much to contribute since I am new. I read a lot. Everyone teases me that I've become a "Navy junkie" but that's ok with me. I've been slowly expanding to other groups since he is no longer in boot camp. This website has been so awesome.
Looking forward to more conversation from you both. Thanks for the contact!!!
We had a logistical SNAFU but...The packing party is a go!
Tuesday, October 30th, 5:00pm
St. Francis de Sales Ministry Center
135 S. Buesching Rd. Lake Zurich, IL 60047
The bake sale will be held Oct. 27th-28th and the kids will shop on the 29th. It will be a last minute determination as to how many boxes we can expect to pack. Please join us at the packing party if you are able. Wish us luck!
Harley Gramma, HEY, I'm in Carol Stream too! Have known Linda for a couple of years. HOW DID WE MISS YOU???
Thetwoj - I suffered from migraines for some time and was told I would have to learn to live with it. I found a chiropractor that does special allergy testing and discovered I had a food allergy to wheat. I have been migraine free for 18 years. I do have wheat now and then usually for special occasions, not on a daily basis.
I live in the western suburbs of Chicago. Not sure where you're at in Illinois, but if you happen to be close I can give you the name of a great chiropractor that has helped many people. Best of luck to you and yours
Thetwoj - It might not be possible to be cured of migrains but your son might be able to identify the markers that set them off and be able to avoid a full blown attack.
I was on medication back when I was in college but I haven't needed medication in years. I do get the occassional migraine but I have found my triggers, red wine, frosting on cakes, sudden changes in barometric pressure.
I am one of the migraine sufferers who sees a sight distortion (once someone told me to look for it), right before the migraine begins. I see a small flash of light, some see wavy color lines. Taking Advil immediately with a full sugar Coke stops my migraine from hitting. I hope he finds something that works for him. Good luck
Thank you all for your well wishes. Right now he's still in the medic area on Ship 5 or SEPS. Of course he was told that in 6 months he can re-enlist if he can get a doctors waiver. But I don't think migrains are something that you can ever be "cured" of. So we are now on to another plan. He wanted very baddly to be a sonar tech for the Navy, so I've been sending him information on becoming an Audio Engineer. I have a sister who lives in Orlando and can get him in to work on one of the shows as an audio board apprentice. These are all good things and a good start for his future. I'm chosing to see this as Gods Plan.
As for you moms, this expierence has given me a new found respect for those who serve our country. What your kids have accomplished to be where they are is no simple task. They are all truly American Heros and I'm proud to say I've been in the company of the women who raised them.
Let me add one more voice to the chorus. Sorry that things did not go as Thetwoj family planned but have no doubt that you're still on God's plan. I also want to second what Linda K says. Look into massage therapy. Look into nutrition, Yoga, chiropracty (I'm sure that's misspelled) and anything else you can think of. I'm a nurse and I have tremendous confidence in traditional western medicine. Having said that, the one thing we do really badly is manage chronic pain. Most doctors don't know what to do, they just keep giving scripts for more and more pain medication. A year or two down the road the patient still has pain and now is addicted to prescription pain medicine. Pain medicine has it's place, don't get me wrong. But if you can find something that can give you relief most of the time and save the narcotics for the really bad days when nothing else is working you will be much better off.
Thetwoj so sorry to hear about your son, Im sure he will find his way in life whatever he does, Bless x
