I'm from West Lafayette. My Navy son is in Virginia also.
I didn't see much of the weather today....slept through it.......but it's still pretty warm outside now...........I wish it would stay too
Yep! Pretty near perfect weather. Wish it would last!!
We had a great time at the party.........Becky and I only live about a half hour away from one another....we have went out a couple times with them and couple times at their house....she's got a beautiful house!!!
My son has been in for over a year and half....his PIR was in May of 2010........and I know what you mean by being an amazing day!!
What do you mean by "this group meet alot?" there are "westie dinners" in Indy, or at least that's where I think they're at.....I don't get a chance to go because I live so far away....but you might be able to go to one......we had a lake party this last summer and Becky is planning one for next summer where several Indiana parents met....keep an eye out for it......it was a lot of fun!!
No my son isn't on the IKE, he's on the Bush, which is due to return from deployment sometime next month......they've been gone for 6 months now.......Can't wait!!
Ship 12 (need a shorter name LOL JK)
a while back my son told me that IKE was relieving them but recently, I've doubted that....it doesn't appear that IKE is going on a long deployment soon...so Lincoln make a lot more sense. I think it would be exciting to be on the flight deck....my son says he "never goes up there".........I did something similar with my son's pillowcase, he chose the fabric he wanted and then I wrote the names of everyone in the family on one side in permanent marker...........that way he always has us near to him when he sleeps.........I looked Elwood up, I've heard of it and know I've seen road signs when going to Indy but wasn't really sure where it was at............lol
ddemeuses,
My son's bday was while deployed on an aircraft carrier. I sent 2- 800 count pillow cases that I had taken to a professional graphic company. I had them put a pic of his car (he loves his German baby)LOL that I had taken when it was on the beach in Pensacola,FL. My son loved it!! He was so surprised! It didn't take any space up, he got to hug his car plus as far as cost I probably spent just as much as if I had fixed a meal for the family plus a gift. LOL
Also Fox River Socks have amazing socks for military. Keep feet dry & warm. My son said that when it was cold out, others would be complaining that their toes or feet were cold and he said his never were. They have ones for really hot temps also.
To ddemeuses - My son is currently on deployment. I have sent him several packages, of goodies.. I agree with all the things that CeeCee has said. One thing I would add would be a good pair of sunglasses.. and believe it or not underwear. My son asked for some underwear and T-shirts..but I am having a hard time finding the color of T-shirts he needs (blue). It has been taking four weeks for packages to arrive, only getting them when they hit port right now...If I were you I would get him his Christmas package before he leaves, he may not receive it by Christmas if he is not leaving till later...Best to you and God Bless your son and may he be safe....If you need to talk to someone, become friends on FB or get someones personal E-Mail - it is easier to talk a little more freely unless you go to some of the meetings.
Debbie
ddemeuses... just to be extra careful, would it bother you if I asked you to delete your post with the date in it? Some Navy moms are very skittish about these things and then they won't be able to complain.
I put a long list of possible gift items in the 'page' titled "Halfway Boxes & Mail Drops" (look in the column just right of this one; under the strip of member avatars). This is an article I wrote for Sub Moms, but I think it fits OK here, too. Let us know if you still need some ideas. Thanks! k.
