there's a wolcott and a wolcottville, I live in the latter and wolcott is down by Indiana beach.............I'm about an hour and 15 minutes east of South Bend and 45 minutes north west of Fort Wayne

Thanks cc. good ideas. He's assigned to the USS Theodore Roosevelt in Norfolk but that ship id in renovations until 2013. So he'll be going out on another one. Of course I can't mention which one or where from. I'm in Cedar Lake which is about 15 min from the Illinois border. Is Wolcottville down near Indiana Beach? I've seen the sign for Wolcott going there last summer.

Ah, gotcha!  I hadn't read down that far and thought the reference was just to the name of the ship.
Comment by CeeCee on November 1, 2011 at 7:57pm
yes it is but dd mentioned the date it was leaving ................
Comment by navymom9875 on November 1, 2011 at 7:55pm
Isn't it ok to say the name of a ship as long as you don't talk about it's schedule or location?
Comment by CeeCee on November 1, 2011 at 7:55pm

I didn't realize that there was a date associated with dd's post.....sorry.........I understand why I shouldn't have asked about the ship.....I apologize!!

ddemeuses......my son is on a ship deployment right now..........not sure the $$ amount you want to spend but music, cdplayer, laptop, movies for laptop, ipod...........books if he's into reading.............anything that will help pass the time......cards, small hand held games........and then of course the usual care packages!!

Hi everyone.....My son is going on his first deployment Dec 3-an 8 month world tour. Does anyone have any ideas on Christmas gifts for a young man on a ship for 8 months? I have no ideas. I periodically send him care packages, like snacks, personal hygiene items, etc. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

@ Jennie - Welcome!  Be sure to join "Sub Moms," too.  Even though it'll be a while before he gets to his boat (ships are 'ships,' subs are 'boats'), you'll be learning a ton while he's in school.  Is he headed to BESS (sub school), in Groton, CT?  Or Nuclear school in Goose Creek, SC?

@Brbr3 - If that little remark was Tourettes, then I must be completely whacko!!!
