NAVY WEEK IS STARTING TO "FALL IN" - Stay Tuned!
I just got off the phone with Cmdr Jane Taylor, who's in charge of planning our Indiana Navy Week! We've finally started assigning some dates to the activities that Navy For Moms are going to help with (TENTATIVE):
1. Monday, August 15, 6:00 pm - "Dine With a Sailor!"; Sailors will be attending our monthly Westies Dinner... see the Events Calendar for further details, as they are available.
2. Tuesday, August 16, 9:00 pm - Wreath Laying Ceremony at the USS Indianapolis Memorial, on the canal in downtown Indy. Survivors and/or families, Admirals, Navy Band, and city dignitaries will be in attendance.
3. Tuesday, August 16, 7:00 pm - A large DEP Swearing-In Ceremony (probably at a sports event); Navy For Moms will host a hospitality tent for the families whose DEPper is leaving for Great Lakes afterward. We'll provide a sympathetic shoulder for this emotional time and answer questions re: boot camp and Navy life.
4. Later that week (TBA) - Provide lunch for Seabees constructing a Habitat for Humanity home. We'll provide HOMESTYLE food and desserts, like only MOM can make!
5. Saturday, August 20 (TBA) - Packing party for care packages to be sent by Molly's Adopt-A-Sailor. Details forthcoming.
