Hi

Can't comment on the events page for some reason.  You must be having better weather than us.  Going down to 6 tonight.  Blowing wind (it was tough getting home from early church--near white outs that weren't there an hour earlier.)

You all take care!

My son too, is 11 div 54 grad Jan 28. Wow! Have you made hotel reservations yet? I'm having a hard time deciding where to go, and know that I need to get it done asap!

Dear Hoosiers,
As our "prodigal daughter," Carol, has posted, our state has been gifted with the honor of hosting a Navy Week celebration, during the Indiana State Fair, August 13-22, 2011!

This is a chance to not only educate our neighbors about the US Navy, but to also demonstrate our pride for our children's service to their country.

To make this a memorable event, volunteers will be needed for many tasks: driving, housing, or feeding Naval personnel and/or assisting at the public events scheduled. A schedule of these events will be kept current at the USN website: Navy Week Indianapolis.

Also, I have created a N4M discussion thread just for our chatter at: Indianapolis Navy Week 2011.

Please mark your calendars and join the fun in August...

Let's cast off!

Thank you for the reminder, MarineNavy Mom.

Remembering Pearl Harbor: On this day in 1941, the USN Pacific Fleet was attacked without warning by the Empire of Japan, beginning 7:48 a.m. Hawaiian Time. Four U.S. Navy battleships were sunk (two of which were raised and returned to service later in the war) and all four other battleships present were damaged. The Japanese also sank or damaged three cruisers, three destroyers, an anti-aircraft training ship and one minelayer. 188 U.S. aircraft were destroyed, 2,402 personnel were killed and 1,282 were wounded. Japanese losses were light, with 29 aircraft and five midget submarines lost, and 65 servicemen killed or wounded. One Japanese sailor was captured.

The attack came as a profound shock to the American people and led directly to the United States' entry into World War II, in both the Pacific and European theaters.

Will someone be going to the Soldiers & Sailors Monument in downtown Indianapolis? If so, can you get a holiday picture of it for me? Thanks

Seeing my son in his dress blues literally took my breath away. I've always been proud of him, but there was just something extra special about seeing him in uniform. I wouldn't have traded seeing his PIR for anything in the world.

I just got home from attending my son's graduation on 12/3!!!! It was so amazing!! But I did want to put a comment on here for people who have sons and daughters currently in BC and will be traveling to Great Lakes. DO NOT stay at the Super 8 Hotel in the 600 block of Green Bay Road. It is terrible! The showers don't work very good, the place is pretty run down, and the cops had to be called our last night there for an out-of-control party on the floor where I was. Also, my kids went to dinner at a place called King Buffet (a chinese buffet) and all of them said it was the worst chinese buffet they had ever been to. I'm not sure exactly where it is, but it's in the area of the Super 8. Please, steer clear of both these places.

Oh, poor Jim! I'm sure you must have hurt it doing something terribly brave and heroic... like fighting robbers at the bank or saving someone from a burning building, right?!
