OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind.  In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships."  OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

well. I have been a lurker on this group for several months while my son waits to ship. The date is November 10. His 22nd birthday. He enlisted from Chicago so that is his MEPS and that is where we will be seeing him off from. The time at home is short, that has good and bad merits. I am so proud.

The World Series is coming to Arlington, Texas... and I'm in Avon, IN (ain't that the way?) So, I've already ordered a Rangers flag for my house!

Oh, Becky... I am so grieved to learn this news. Please communicate to the family how sad we are and that we mourn with them; and of course, they'll be in our thoughts and prayers. Any sailor is our sailor. If you have an address where we might send cards, please let us know. With heavy hearts, k.

Ask you son what he'd like. Most sailors choose where they say goodbye based on what's easiest for THEM. If he wants to say goodbye at the house, don't take it as if he wants away from you sooner... just let him have his way. Hugs! k.

TylersMom, My son had talked about the Navy since first grade. I knew it was the right choice for him and he was so excited to go. And I STILL sobbed on my bed for an hour after he left.

You're not mourning the Navy, you're mourning the end of mothering days. I only cried once in front of my son before he left, because he got teary when telling me he'd miss us when he was gone. Other than that, I figure tears for MY losses are not his to bear... so he doesn't see them.

We all handle this "mom's not ready yet" stuff differently, so be happy and proud and supportive as much as you can. And when you need to let it all out, you are welcomed here! Hugs, k.
