This stopped me in my tracks and I offered one up... we've walked with friends through the death of a child and there is nothing to compare. Please offer them Andrew's and my deepest sympathies. k.

My prayers and thoughts go out to this family. It's so hard to lose a child.

I had a DEE-LIGHTFUL time at the Navy Moms dinner last night! We were happy to host Chief Recruiter Jason Kohlmann (from Avon) and his lovely fiancee' Stephanie. We were also happy to finally meet Dawn's sailor, Zack and his new bride, Molly. Both young men were talking away and just the best dinner company! Dawn, you should be very proud of your family! Hugs, k.

Goodness, Indiana has been a busy place recently!

Becky: Bravo-Zulu! (trans= Navy term meaning "Bravo to the Nth degree!") And what a cute sailor you have!

Dawn: There isn't a more wonderful surprise in the world! I would've screamed and grabbed him... I'm sure there were Kleenex going like hotcakes at your house! I'm happy to know you're bringing the happy couple to dinner tonight... can't wait to meet them.

Jim: We muddling along somehow without your sweet presence here... you're like sunshine to all us little daisies! Hope you and Bev are doing well. Hugs, k.

I am sorry that anyone leaves the site because they got their feelings hurt by another, for the site is so informational and helpful. Everyone should try to get along---------it's not so much about us as it is our sailor.

DRoberts--It will still be a couple of days till you get your sailor in the box and his addy. However, usually your recruiter already has an addy. And, if your sailor sends a different one, it's still usually ok that one letter went to one address, and the follow up ones to another.

My son shipped to BC on the 8th and I am waiting for his address. How long does it take before I receive his letter?

Thank you all for the information on the Grad and Go. I was sorry to hear it but at least we now know what to expect. We will go, no matter what, but feel that the parents will want the very little time. You said you got to spend time at the airport, was this Great Lakes or Chicago?
Comment by Kaye S. on September 11, 2010 at 3:18pm
Welcome to Indiana Moms, joj! After PIR ("pass in review" = graduation), the vast majority of sailors do not leave Great Lakes for their respective training schools until the following week.

Unfortunately, there is a small minority which much leave for their school on the very Friday they graduate; thus, they must "grad and go." If your sailor is one of these, I'm sad to say that whatever family members attend his/her graduation, will only get to spend a short time visiting afterwards (no one sees their sailor before). Sometimes, I've heard it can be as long as a few hours and in other cases, as short as less than an hour.

Since Indiana is relatively close to Chicago, I'd urge you to attend the ceremony. It means so very much to the sailors having family members there, and it's an experience YOU will find meaningful, too... it's one of the most moving things I've ever been to. Hope this info helps, k.
