My Nuke MM Submariner went to see the recruiters (multiple because he had considered the Academy), did DEP, MEPS, all the signing by himself. I met the final recruiter the day he picked my son up for BC. He brought me all the paperwork, pamphlets as time progressed....let me read it, and ask questions...but his comments from the get go, were basically, this is the start of the rest of my life...I have to live it.

As a Navy mom, I was there at my son's swearing in. Yes it was nice to be with him till the very end but they were all in a room and we had to stand in the back. There was an Army officer in the front and he did the swearing in. The boys (and girls) were all in rows saying it all together. It was quick and taking pictures while it happened was just the back of their heads. My camera desided not to work. The day was really crazy and of the 3 hours I was in the building with Joe I think I spent 10 minutes with him. It made it even harder to say goodbye to him.

Anna, my son also kept me from knowing about the swearing in. Sometimes, when they say, "I thought it'd be easier...," they're not talking about YOU, but rather themselves. Looking back, I've seen times when son didn't want me there because HE didn't want the emotional stress. As MarineNavyMom said, you'll have PIR. We could talk for hours about how proud you'll be, but you won't get it until it happens! Hugs, k.

Hi - My son left for bootcamp April 26th. Of course he went down to Indy to swear in, then off to GL. I was told I could have went for the swearing in. I asked him about it that night when he called me. He said mom I just thought it would be easier this way. I cried... Does anyone know if they take photos of the swearing in that I can get a copy of.. Thanks... Anna

Hey, Dawn, talked with your daughter today at Michael's. She said you really like hanging with the Navy Moms. Should have told her we were really a floating crap game! She also told me that tomorrow was the "big event!" You'll post some pix, right? Hugs, k.
