OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind.  In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships."  OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

This conversation is hilarious! I have some friends stationed (Navy) in Japan, and I live in NW Indiana (Hebron.)

I'm always thinking to myself 'what time is it in Japan?' when I'm wondering if it's too early to call them.

I haven't used it yet...but there is a Navy Speak block in the right hand column...I guess just type in what you don't know and see if there is an answer there, would be a great way of finding out what you don't know!!!

MA is "Master-at-Arms," meaning 'Navy police.' I think QC means "Qualifications Complete," meaning he's a full-fledged, got-the-pin, MA!

Heather82, that is so wonderful to hear! My son is in Bangor, WA -- it's a great base will lots to do, plus there's plenty of outdoor activities in the surrounding area. I hope this is the beginning of much happiness for all of you! Hugs, k.

Heather, I agree with Jim and 'Marine,' that talking with a chaplain or someone TRAINED to help will be beneficial to him. He'll probably say that he doesn't need to talk to anyone, so if he does, ask him to do it for YOU... that it'll make YOU feel better. How long does his A-school last? What job is he being trained for? Is he struggling to 'qualify' for his job? If he's just homesick and missing his family, concentrate on how TEMPORARY A-school is -- and that once it's over, you'll all be together again (just like bootcamp didn't last forever). If he's struggling to qualify for his job, he needs to talk with a career counselor about other options he can pursue. I, too will hold all of you in my prayers. Hugs, k.
