Hi Iowans,
My son is in his 4th week of book camp. I am new to the whole military thing and was happy to see a group from Iowa.
By the way, I'm coming home from Texas next weekend! While I hate to leave the warm weather here, it will soon be too hot to enjoy, so the Quad-Cities sound good except for the flooding. Maybe there's a time we can set up a meet and greet.
Nola (and all my wonderful Navy mom friends), a little update on what's going on with my son and me....he took the advancement test last week. Pray that he passes, but it's hard in his rate. This spring he's taking a road trip from Great Lakes to check out Bremerton and San Diego, but he's thinking he'll go back to Norfolk. He's also preparing to sign a new contract for six years. He's got seven in already.
I'm in south Texas for the winter, but will be headed home the end of the month. My hubby had to put in some time at the Arsenal, but he's flying here tonight. He's retired from there, but is a contractor (consultant) now.
As far as organizations I'm involved with--we do things with the Patriot Guard Riders both in the QC and here in the Rio Grande Valley. On the 16th we'll be going to the veterans' home in McAllen. Every year there's a "welcome home" ride from the border of Oklahoma to Brownsville, so we'll greet all the riders and veterans at the home.
At home I'm involved with the American Legion Auxiliary in Davenport plus being on the staff of Girls State in June in Ames. I was adopted by the Marine Moms and started Navy Families. I visit the recruiters and the NOSC on the Arsenal and do whatever I can to help them. The NOSC is Naval Operations Support Command--it's the Navy Reserve.
For the first time in years, Armed Forces Day will be on the Arsenal again! It's where it should be. Come see me on May 21. In June you can visit Girls State inauguration in Ames. August 26-28 is Healing Field in Davenport.
If you're on facebook, look for Armed Forces Day and look for me so you can friend me if you want.
I am not up on the lastest vampire stuff but that is interesting. ; ) Does it have to do with the Twilight saga? Where is your son now and what will he be doing?
At least if he gets WA. he will be in the U.S. and easier to go visit and for him to come home. Heading off to work soon, have a great weekend.
