All the pictures are on facebook if anyone wants to see them. We had such a good time. I've been blessed with students, parents, and adults who want to travels. I didn't think it would happen after I retired, but it keeps happening! I want to gather enough to do "WWII and the Western Front" (London, Paris, Berlin, Munich and more!) next summer. Mary, Dereck will see my son on week 5 in the simulation range. Tell Dereck if he doesn't write to you, an instructor will be ordering him to write his mom!

Purple Heart and other missing awards--there's missing paperwork. He just found out that some paperwork was trashed when the Army figured out he was leaving Afghanistan. Nice, huh? I was told that getting a Congressman involved could have an adverse effect on his career. It's all a mess. I am sending for all his medical records to see what's there and what's missing. Then we'll figure out what to do, but our son has been told not to be involved. Frustrating!

Happy July! I haven't been around much. I took some students to Greece the beginning of June for 12 days. We had a fabulous time! When they came home (there were a couple parents and other teachers with them), my husband and I flew to Rome, took the train to Bolzano and on to Munich. We came home the 24th. Now we're volunteering for the John Deere Classic--always busy. Granddaughters are good; sailor son seems to be good. He came home on leave the end of May and took us to O'Hare for our flight to Athens; picked us up when we flew in. We stayed at his apt in Zion. He's started to "decorate" with a more mature style. He was so excited about a shower curtain he picked out, made sure I noticed and commented. He's been dating a gal in the Navy, which he said he'd never do, so she must be something special! She's been transferred back to Norfolk, but flew in last weekend to see him. They're keeping it low key so far--I don't even know her name! But he seems happy, so I'm happy.

The latest on my son stationed as an instructor at GL--he's been told that even though he's supposed to be there for another almost two years, he's on the short list to be sent to Kuwait. Better than other places, I suppose, but he did say there would be convoys. In the meantime, he's been thinking about his next state side duty station--considered SD, but probably going back to Norfolk, will try to get into the riverines.

I have one of those signs from buildasign. It's worth every penny of the shipping cost.
I wanted to mention again the Armed Forces Day celebation on May 15 in Davenport. Make a day of it--North Park Mall is within a half mile of the site!

Just checking in--I'm still a winter Texan and will be for another month. It hasn't been a very nice winter here, but at least we haven't shoveled snow! Just saw the comment about Little Creek--I've been in that area a number of times when my son was stationed there. We loved staying at the Little Creek Navy Lodge. It's actually a Seabee base, but there's also a Navy band there, so you're right--a little of a lot of things. My son is still an instructor at Great Lakes.

Hi, from a chilly, gray south Texas, but I'm not complaining one bit! My husband had to fly home a week ago to put time in at the Rock Island Arsenal, and he calls me every morning to tell me how cold it is! He'll be back here in two weeks. Even Texas hasn't had a very nice winter, but we do have occasional days in the 70's with sun. This park where we are has a sprinkling of almost every state, but the majority of winter Texans here are Iowans and Canadians. My neighbors are primarily Manitobans with a few Iowans. It's been great fun. Last week I went to the Poweshiek County (Iowa) gathering for the entire Rio Grande Valley. 50 people showed up! Wednesday my cousin's wife and I went to a Red Hat luncheon. I've never done Red Hat at home, but it was a fun afternoon. The park that hosted has a lovely veterans' honor wall, and one is being done in our park. On Friday we had our own park's ladies' luncheon with the theme of "Crimes of Fashion." What a hoot!

As far as my sailor, I think he does enjoy being an instructor, but he also is in charge of snow at his building and on funeral honor guard duty, so he's busy. He's been home to Rock Island several weekends lately though. I suggested he meet a former student of mine--they seem to like each other now! I am cautiously hopeful. He needs a good woman in his life! He told his dad this weekend that he most likely will get sent to Afgh again. I hope not! He's supposed to be at GL two more years. A year ago this week we were helping him move his stuff from Norfolk to Zion after a year in Afghanistan.
