I'll ask him when I talk to him again. He's been so busy, I think. He was coming home for the weekend, but because of the rain he decided to wait. He's got a bunch of stuff to haul home and put in storage in his sister's garage.

Isn't he handsome?! (and single!!!)
Good news today: a doctor at Great Lakes is helping him get the purple heart

Dor, depending on the time of day, I might be able to meet you at the airport for a cup of coffee before you leave or when you come back. I live 10 minutes away.

I might not have mentioned it because I really don't want to scare anyone, but he hit an IED in May 2008 while in poppyland. We thank God everyday that he came out of it with relatively minor injuries and PTSD compared to so many others, but he was injured and deserves a purple heart. It isn't the medal on his chest that we're after, it's the care when his Navy career is over many years from now. The physical therapist has determined that he'll always have knee pain until they someday do knee replacements. Because he was an individual augmentee working for the Army, he's caught between the Army and Navy signing off on it. The Army should have signed, but he made an enemy over there by following regulations instead of following an improper Army Lt's "request" in another situation.

Thank you! He will be surprised and pleased (after he calls me and wants to know what I've done this time!). In the same vein, I talked to a chief on Friday who told me to make the quest for his purple heart my full time job. That's just what I'm going to do!

Got our tickets for the Navy Ball in Davenport! No need to rent a tux, suits are ok for husbands, civilians welcome. They're encouraging people to come to see the protocol and ceremony and have a good time. October 17

He'd be so surprised! I think sometimes the single sailors stationed in the states can be lonelier than those that are deployed--too much time on their hands and none of those care packages being delivered.

I just got my invitation to the Navy Ball. I hope we're going to go! I'm excited. Anyone can go, so I can send on the invitation for October 17. I think Andy will try to come home and go here.

If anyone wants to send my son (GM, an instructor at GL Recruit Training Center) a birthday card, let me know so I can give you his address. He'll be 27 on the 27th.

I got to visit the simulation firing range last weekend where the recruits learn about weapons. My son is one of the instructors there, so your sons have probably run into him. He just can't "fraternize" with them. I did tell him about a recruit whose mom's friend I met in Illinois moms, so he walked by and told the recruit to write her mom! He can met them at Gurnee Mall after they graduate, too. Because he's an instructor, he can't give them rides and has to meet in public places.

He's 26. He'll be in that area next weekend probably. As long as they know he's a divorced dad of 2 and would make good Navy wives! Find out if they're on facebook and we can friend them!
