The Navy Ball is a formal--the sailors wear their dress uniforms. There's a dinner and dance. Sort of picture prom from your youth! They even have a photographer take pictures. Civilians are welcome, especially Navy parents. I'll find out more of the details, but I'm sure it's just in the planning stages yet.

Good morning! I'm heading to Grinnell Monday to celebrate my mom's 87th birthday. I won't get back there on the 1st. We're organizers for the Celtic Highland Games of the Quad-Cities in August, so I'm pretty much obligated here for the month. Sept. 5 is "A Night to Honor Our Heroes" for the Military Warriors Support Foundation. The entertainers are Michael W. Smith and John Waller.

Just throwing this out--the Navy Ball is October 17 in Davenport. We're welcome to attend.

Julie, I'm so sorry to read what you're going through. The middle of August I take my dad for a scan to see if he has cancer anywhere. He had some on his ear removed that ended up being a melanoma.

Tomorrow doesn't work for me either. I ended up (happily) with our granddaughters and I had promised them I'd take them to Pinkalicous at Circa '21. The 27th is my mom's 87th birthday, so I'll try to get down there sometime soon though.

This is all I know about the event--I didn't get the info till recently and too late for reservations without a late fee. More important, it was too late for me to plan. Look for my PGR group on here with an explanation of what PGR is. (And I don't have a motorcycle! KSU means kick stand up, in other words, departure time)

Michelle, I hope it does, too. Congratulations on gaining a daughter. The 17th-19th is the Patriot Guard Riders Iowa Gathering in Grinnell. So if you (we) see lots of motorcycles, don't be alarmed! They'll ride on Saturday to Knoxville VA and then to Marshalltown Veterans Home before dinner at the Eagles in Grinnell.

Michelle, he will always be your baby! That never changes. During our visit to Tucson to visit my husband's mom (a wonderful mother-in-law!), she told him to quit doing something and looked at me and said, "He's still my little boy and I can tell him that." He's almost 62!

Have you set a date to meet? I'll come visit my parents in Grinnell at the same time.

I've been gone for almost three weeks with little computer time, so I'm just catching up on all this. Good grief! If you can't keep them from getting married, I hope they are smart enough on their own to not have babies for awhile! You can go to my Moms of Divorced Sailors and read about our experiences--quick marriage, babies, and then she decided she didn't want to be a Navy wife. I hope and pray for better experiences for all of you! The good thing after almost six years is that finally all are getting along. We just returned from a trip to Tucson with the two granddaughters to visit their great-grandmother. I could hardly believe their mother let them go with us and for that long, but it worked and was wonderful. I'll miss having the girls around tomorrow!

The QC Air Show is June 20-21 north of Davenport right off of I-80. The Navy's Blue Angels will be there.
