i need some extra prayers for my daughter who is in Afghanistan on her 1st deployment and for myself to help relieve the night mares I am having, I have had them for almost a month now and almost every night but since I was informed over the weekend that she ran over with her truck part of a hidden bomb. It damage her truck, but she is alive, thank God. Don't really know the extend of injuries,. She was able to contact me herself but knowing my daughter she doesn't always tell me everything and because I can't see her I don't know if she is leaving out any parts. She said something about a brain scan and that she is feeling alot of aftershocks. Then all of sudden she disapear and haven't heard from since. It was unsual that she didn't tell me good bye or she loved me because that has always been the way we signed off since she joined the Navy, so I need some extra prayers sent my way. I need sleep with out nightmares which have got more intense since this news. Thank you Mama Bear
Just returned from Iowa American Legion Auxiliary junior camp near Dayton. While there, the 67 girls and staff, plus some guests yesterday, signed five posters to remind our troops that they aren't forgotten. One went to Cuba, one went to RTC at Great Lakes to an instructor, and three are going to Afghanistan.
The Davenport packing party will be in JULY! Stay tuned for date, but requested items so far are ground coffee, gummy bears, and Under Armor compression shorts. More info to follow, but it's a special adoption by Molly's Adopt a Sailor. I can tell you that there are 100-150 military in the group, 50 of them sailors.
Hi Dawn, I don't have anyone in FLR, but I do have a Navy Seabee daughter and my son is in Air Force tech school. I live close to you in Coralville.
The skate park is at a wonderful park by the Mississippi. The air show is just north of I-80, a direct drive from one to the other.
Welcome, Dawn! I drive by Tiffin when I go to see my mom in Grinnell.
Mary, the air show is in the Quad-cities, actually at the airport in Davenport just off I-80. I'll post more info when I know something, but you can google it now and get some now. It's really fun! Do post it on facebook.
Just got back from Norfolk. I took my sailor son's daughters (7&10) to see their daddy before he deploys and to meet his special someone. When we got there last week, he was leaving next week, then June. By Friday afternoon he was leaving THIS week, so I'm glad we went when we did. Monday he had to have all his gear on base to be "palletized," a new Navy term for me. We had a great time--beach three times despite crummy weather, toured the USS Wisconsin, had lunch with some of my former students that are in the Navy, and Sunday dinner with a couple (retired chaplain) who open their home to sailors. Met them three years ago--wonderful people.
Early next week, my sailor will be playing in the sand. :(
