To our dear neighbors, we wanted to extend an invitation to you:

Time: August 22, 2009 from 12pm to 4pm

Location: East Cobb Park, Marietta, GA

A summer time gathering for all of our Navy family, friends and a few sailors too!!! Come out and enjoy a beautiful day at this nice park in Marietta. It is a covered pavilion and a beautiful park. Bring a side dish to share and a meat to grill for your family. Perhaps we can put together a game of softball, volleyball or old fashion croquet! Bring your games and happy faces!!! All are welcome!

Details are posted in the "Events" August 22nd - a Day at the Park...

Thank you all for the welcome! We were in Jacksonville the first 10 days of June helping our son's wife get the house setup and help out with the kids. We really enjoyed what we saw of the area, especially the Steak and Shake restaurants! We used to live in Bloomington/Normal Illinois home of Steak and Shake. Haven't been to one in almost 40 years. It was just as good as we remembered. Beats In and Out in California. Elizabeth - I hope your son is enjoying Washington state. We are having a fabulous summer.

I'm in Washington state surrounded by Navy bases. But neither of my kids have ever been stationed around here.

Hello! When I originally saw this group I thought it was only for moms who live in Jacksonville but after reading posts it looks like you have a lot of moms who have sailors in JAX but live else where in the country! My son is a helicopter pilot and has just recently transferred to JAX with his family. They had been in Norfolk for two years where he was an instructor and the MO, San Diego prior to that. He just finished HS mission training at North Island and Aviation Safety Officer School in Pensacola. They are happy to finally be settled again for the next two years.

Hi there everyone....hope you can offer some suggestions. My son is stationed at NAS and has just had to have his car towed. It quit running on the freeway, and now the Honda dealer said it needs a new head gasket & water pump.
89 Accord. We suggested he shop around for a cheaper "shop rate" in town, with other auto shops, rather than the dealer. Anybody have a favorite auto mechanic they would like to recommend for a starving sailor?
Thanks so much...Appreciate your help!

Hi to all, Reading thru your comments, looks like you are all taking care of the sailors in need. Heartwarming and wonderful things look like he is going to be ok....Bless him!
Meanwhile, I'm just popping in to ask a few questions of the Jacksonville Moms if you don't mind. My son just landed in Jacksonville and will be there for about a year while in training.
He's a Scuba diver on weekends, and we're wondering if the Florida East Coast is good for Scuba? We heard there's more 'surf action", so the water is not as clear as it would be in the Gulf, or further south? Is that right?
Another question, is it as humid there in the summer, as he found the Pensacola area to be this last summer? Do the Atlantic breezes cool things off a bit more?
(we still have SNOW on the ground in the Pacific Northwest!! What a world of difference!)
Last question...what should he absolutely see/visit while in the Jacksonville area? Any advice or tips would be just wonderful!
Thank you all so much....Navy On!

Hi ladies, hope it is warming up there...still a tad cold in Atlanta. Just wanted to say how much we enjoyed meeting Jackie, Susan and MaryBeth at the Savannah lunch this weekend - made the day so much more special! Thank you for taking time to join us!

I stayed with my daughter on Saturday night, woke up Sunday am to tornado watch and big storms...an hour later.....was driving home in cold, ugly snow!!! It's been a long time since I've driven in snow....called my family up in Michigan to let them know I was back home and it was snowing....they called me a...wimp!
