Hi everyone, Just found this discussion. My son left on the 20th and his PIR is 19 MAR 10. Just hit under 30 days until I see the Man. Can't wait. Deanna

~dorie,
This posting copied and pasted from the Great Lakes A School Q & A Group:
Comment by Gary T on February 12, 2010 at 3:11pm Debbie, the Visitor Center is at Gate 1 on the A-School side. Plenty of parking. If he has his cell phone have him call you when he is walking out and you can meet him at the pedestrian gate. Usually if he is alone you will have to meet him at that gate. Drive east on Buckley past the main gate to RTC. Follow the curve around to Sheridan Ave. Turn right and go north. First stop light is Farragut which is the main gate. Drive through the intersection and take the next immediate right turn into the Visitor Center parking lot. You will see plenty of cabs and cars parked there. When you meet your sailor both of you go into the visitor center and obtain a pass to drive onto the base. You will not be able to drive on base unless you have a person with a valid military ID in the vehicle. If you choose to get the pass have the ladies make it for the whole weekend. It is much easier to drive him to his ship and offload things then it is to carry them back to the ship. Some of these ships are a good 25 to 30 minute walk one way. Go to GOOGLE maps and study the route, it is quite easy. Gary T.

I agree with you about the mornings. Every night I write to him until I pass out, and for some reason it has helped me sleep knowing I have fallen asleep mid conversation with Tommy. Even if its a one sided conversation. but when I wake up in the morning and I realize that he is not there, it breaks my heart. My biggest fear is not only the wait of him coming home.. but him not coming home at all. I think its a common fear, but I still worry. Reserves isn't bad! One of my really good friends is in the airforce reserves. She loves it, and it has so many options that will help any situation! So thats great news! Is it just me or does everyone picture the day they can have their soldiers in their arms again? I think about it all the time!

I heard flying into MKE (milwaukee) is better than ORD (chicago) because it is less traffic even though it is about 15 minutes farther away, in the end, it really isn't if your stuck in traffic.............

Is this true?

So I'm not going to be renting a car, Don't have a credit card... So Shuttle or public transportation is the only way I'll be traveling. Are their shuttles from the airport to the hotels? Or am I going to have to take a cab? I've heard there are toll booths that range anywhere up to 80 cents, so not too bad. If I took a shuttle, does anyone know how much it costs? And if I take a late flight, will I still be able to check in late? I hardly ever travel and this is the first time I am having to do it all by myself, so any tips or little pieces of information will help me a lot!

It might have been the internet, but I did get a site from another group that had the schedule for graduation and the information about the passes. Im not sure if it was the same as the one you sent, but it was helpfull!
