Navy for Moms Dictionary

I hope this works.

Well, I cannot find the list I had at all.  So going from memory.

Do me a favor - if I made mistakes - just correct them and add on news one :)

As Navy Moms we are having to learn actual Navy lingo.  But being on our site - we started our own.  And easier way to communicate emotions without taking up the entire site.  So here goes with what I can remember:

1. navyformoms.com : A website created by the Navy for a gathering place for relatives of serving sailors to meet and have support.

That's what the Navy wanted us to believe - WHAT this site really is:

"A safe place for relatives of sailors to find each other and share. Share ALL their feelings with each others that understand what each is going through.  And a means to rescue the Navy Recruiters from panicking Navy Moms! "

2. BC:   stands for Boot Camp

3. The Box: that box filled with your sailor's items from BT.   After  opening this box  you realize you no longer just have a child - you have a Sailor that belongs to the US, Navy.  One might experience a large lump in throat and might cry for about 2 to 3 hours after opening box.  Note: one might continue to cry when just seeing the box - advice - hide box after storing away sailor's items.  Second note: would be good idea  to WASH sailor's items before storing them away.

4. PIR: The Pass In Review at BT Graduations!!!  Finally we get to hug our kids again!  Make sure to make reservations EARLY - take along camera and plenty of kleenex.

5. Japan Moms: this site :) . Where relatives of sailors are stationed in Japan.

6."Pan Moms":  What we really call ourselves and this site.  A while back - a young sibling of a sailor stated he wanted to be just like his big brother and become a sailor too. And go travel to the country of "Pan" to see him.  We all fell so in love with story - we changed our Name to "Pan Moms".  If I got the story wrong correct please or add the names of who shared the story :)

7. Welcome Aboard: we consider our Pan Moms to be our ship so everyone new is Welcome Aboard.

8 Jump into the Water: to talk about yourself and your sailor/sailors.

We are careful not to share detailed information that could harm our sailors ( names - locations - when a ship is leaving or coming back , etc)

9. Gossip:  mostly sharing about your self and what is happening at home

a) Chisme - gossip in Spanish :)

Anyone know what gossip is in Japanese?  How about Scottish?

10. Care Packages:  sharing what items to send in packages.

11. Alert - Alert:  important news - example - bad weather, earthquakes, volcanoes, - events that scare us Moms and the same events that our sailors tell they had so much fun going through.

12. Now Hear This:  when fellow Navy Moms get after another Navy Mom ( Blondie ) for over doing in work ( Blondie ) and will not listen to their doctor ( Blondie) and keep going until they ( Blondie ) are so sick that we don't hear from them - making us here wonder if they are ok - Blondie!  Maybe I should just rename this : Doing a Blondie ?

14. Homesick: two meanings.

a) when sailor calls home - upset or even crying.  You muster all your Mommy instincts and stay on that phone/skype as LONG as it TAKES to see or hear that smile from your sailor and then make a care package as fast as you can to send.

b) what us moms really are feeling - that we want our sailors HOME!

15. Roller Coaster Ride:  It is our emotions.  We will experience so many emotions at once - that you feel you are on a non stop roller coaster. The nice thing - we all are here together and we all laugh - cry - and hang on to each other.

16. BCH:  A Big Cyber Hug

17 Collecting Hugs:  When you have your sailor home and you hug him/her ever minute you can and store them in your heart and then retrieve that hug feeling when they are back on base/ship.

18. Decoding: when you have been so excited/hurt about something and sharing it - that you misspell or leave out words - that we can still understand what was said . ( thank you alot! )

19. Nekkid:  naked :)

20 Check-In: have not heard from you in long while.  Please post.

21. Communication Voo Doo Dolls:  an imaginary or in some cases a doll dresses as a sailor - holding a cell phone in one hand and having a computer too .  Stick pin in phone or computer to send positive vibes for Sailors to CALL their Navy Moms !  If this does not work:

a) Go ON Strike : don't send messages for a while to sailor. Oh this is hard to do!   OR...

b)Send to Complaint Department: tell sailors in an email that you have CALLED their CO and tell how they have not talked with their moms in a very LONG time :)

22. Chatter Cluster: I saw this on a post a while back.  I believe it was a Navy Mom's hubby that was describing us sharing here.  I liked it.

23. Crank Duty:  usually a three month time period that our sailors have to do work in the kitchen of their ship.  This is when you sailor calls and tells you how hard it is to cook and then have to clean up after everyone. This is when us Moms get to laugh.  And then remind sailors that we at home have been on Crank Duty for so many years and still on it!

24. Chest Candy: The ribbons and metals our sailors earn . Then placed on their uniforms for all to see.

25. Bragging Rights: when your sailor has earned an ribbons - metals - awards and Jump into the Water and share the details .

26. Pics: posting pictures :)

27. Duffle Bag Explosion:  when sailor arrives home and that duffle bags hit the floor. All the contents just flight out everywhere and it stays that way until sailor gets ready to head back to ship or base.  Note : Us Moms will not be bothered in one little bit :)

28. My Time: stating that you need to give yourself some time to do anything relaxing.

29. US Time:  two meanings

a) time alone with your special other :)

b) sailor is home and you get time with them .

30. Navy Time: the Navy wins this one.  It is their TIME to have or not have your sailor.

31. Kleenex Box ! :  means have a box of kleenex beside the computer - someone is posting something that will make you cry.

32. Go Pee ! : some one has posted something so funny that you will pee your pants if you don't go first.

33. Toasting:  We all agree on a time to raise a glass of wine - beer - pop - coffee - tea - a drink - to honor someone or event at the same time. Like at Thanksgiving. we all cannot be at the same table - but we all can toast to each other.  A way to be together in spirit.

34. Lighting a Candle: the same as with toasting, but you all light a candle. Sometimes this is used to show honor to a fallen military person.

35. Set'um Up:  asking for those who have pics of wonderful runs of drinks to set them up - post the pics. Used for any emotion we need.

That reminds me - where is that Water Cooler picture?

36. Pan Baby:  when one of our Navy Moms is expecting :)

37.Positive List: sometimes we ask each other to send a prayer or positive thought to a need.  Many times there have been several needs - so I made a list - a Positive List for me to see each morning and then send out the needed vibes :)

39. Flitting : To move. Example: Sailor is flitting out on Friday

40. Sailor is Flitting:  possible meaning - Sailor is moving from barracks to his apartment.
