My son is heading to Japan in a month. I have several questions. Hope can find the answer here:
1. He was stationed in Hawaii, then went to Va for training. So most of his stuffs are in Navy storage, and have 7 suicase stuffs with him. How can he consolidate his stuff? I mean sending some stuffs he has now to Navy storage and send some stuffs in Navy storage to Japan?
2. He has an iphone 6s, unlocked. Can he get a local sim card in Japan?
3. He is IT2, so he can't live on base. Any suggestion on where to find place to live. He will be at Honshu, Yokosuka and can't have car
Thanks in advance.

Kisdaughter, thanks for sharing this info with me. What does she use for making local call?
Public transportation is so good in Japan, he won't need a car. He will want a good bicycle with a helmet and a good lock. I biked or walked to work I lived so close. Do not try to apartment hunt from here, he will go to the Housing Office and take their class on renting in Japan, and be given a list of house agents. Housing will also help with the lease, which will be in both languages. They do have temporary lodging for E-5s until he can find a place.
I have no idea what to tell you. My daughter is in Yokosuka and just arrived June 3rd so I am new to the Japan routine. Why doesn't he qualify to live on base? I dont get that. My daughter and her husband are both IT and got an apartment on base.
