I'm working on a tile backsplash in the kitchen, I got one section up on the adhesive, but hubby says I must take a break or I will hurt my back. All mixed tiles, some plain, some glass, mostly Mexican Talavera, very colorful. Three and a half more sections to go! I will post a link to pictures when I am done, several more days yet. The adhesive has to dry thoroughly before you can grout the tiles.

Hubby is safely headed south to his terminal, then he can come home.

I never made it to SoKo for shopping, but he did. Yes, we have mink blankets, several of them. Our nicest one he picked up last year on the way back from Vegas, he saw a seabag beside the interstate. Must have fallen out of a pickup truck; it had two mink blankets in it, and one was very new and plush. He doesn't like them for the truck, they are too big and too hard to launder easily. He likes layers because he drives between extremes of temperatures, he has several throws and comforters and a sleeping bag in case it gets really frigid. I made him a polar fleece blanket to fit the long narrow bunk with a matching pillowcase. Red with flames, because he drives a red truck and we go to Burning Man! He has flannel sheets too, which are better in summer than you'd think.

I'm still trying to visualize how you pack a guitar.
By the way, it is a beautiful - sunny day - clear turquois blue sky - wind gust of 27 MPH and a temp of -1 with a wind chill of -21 :). If we a lucky it could get to +8 by 3 PM ! Heatwave ! Bringing out the sun tan lotion . Everyone right now I have a Cardinal eating at the feeder off my window. He is so red and looks like a Winter Post card shot. The birds a use to me now watching them. Sometimes they will sing in the morning. Nice alarm clock - right out my window. Have good day all. TLynn PS Anit M - have you heard from your hubby - safe and warm ? By the way - while serving in Japan - did you and hubby ever go to South Koera and purchase those mink blankets? Mom has one Alex sent and it keeps one so warm. I thought maybe your hubby would have one of those with him on trucking overnights.

Early riser thanks to the Navy. I get online while I have breakfast and the news is on. You can tell which days I'm not busy, I leave the laptop on and check it when I wander by.

LOL on the skateboard. We had the same thought about Levis when we were there, but using the FPO system and skirting around import taxes is black marketing and they will bust you for that. Still, we sold some used jeans at a flea market for more than we paid for them new. You should see the price of Harley-Davidsons! Yes, lots of them in Japan, but military members can have them shipped via Military Car Sales on base for half the price. Yes, hubby had a nice Harley until a taxi ran a red light in Yokohama and totaled the bike. Thankfully he was wearing all that protective gear the Navy requires!!!!

Sandy, that's a lovely memory. I can just picture it.

Yes, he can have his guitar. The Navy encourages that sort of thing, there were even talent shows in Yokosuka when I was there.

LOL on the mush.

60? yeaaaah.... we just warmed up to 5. Yes, five degrees, and I know some folks have it colder than me. I've been running all the faucets periodically in the house to keep the water moving to prevent the pipes from freezing up. Put on a sweater, LOL.

Daniella.. yes, Japan is very safe. When I was there, I was considering strange because I kept my front door locked. It was acceptable for salesmen and neighbors to step inside the front entry and holler hello! leaving the door unlocked was considered safe.

I did have one apartment in a "bad" neighborhood, and it was safer than anywhere I've been in the US. It was considered "bad" because there were bars nearby where sailors went. Guess who the troublemakers were? Yeah, the Americans. I walked home in the middle of the night more than once and it was fine. The cops didn't even carry guns when I was there.

Hi All :)
And welcome Cara. It took me a half hour to finally get caught up with all the sharing. Oh - Cara - one thing about this site - JUMP in and start sharing. By the way - you are now a member of the Kleenex Club too. WE all here keep kleenex boxes by our computers - as you can see - we are REALLY are here for each other and we HEAR each other. And sharing tears makes any situation better :). ( Oh - Navy Dad - he uses his sleeve) Glad you read Anita - if you can't start participating yet, just read and keep up on things happening. One day you will back jumping in- and the water will feel good again :). I can't put into words what I actaully would like to say to each. This has been a day of expression deep feelings. Or more a need - that a fear / a lose / a hurt was REALLY heard. And knowing there was not one ounce of judgement. Just being heard - heals. Thanks ladies. I'm getting off for the night - I am placing a prayer in a candle and lighting it. It's for all us - and for how thankful I am for this site.
From the East - may the Air bring to you Wisdom
From the South - may the Fire bring to you Creativity
From the West - may the Waters bring to you Love
From the North - may the Earth bring to you Stability
From the Center - may the Sprit bring you a Blessing
And may each Star you see - Wink at you - that means a wish comes true.
Sweet Dreams- hugs TLynn

Wow Carol. When was the last time you had them all together?
Comment by Anti M on December 9, 2009 at 6:14pm
Sandy, just because someone else has a different loss or disappointment in no way diminishes any loss you have had or are experiencing. What is important to you is just that... important to you. We can empathize and share, and hug, and no one should feel that anything is too trivial ... if it matters to you, it matters. You are not a small person. I think we are all blessed in some ways, and by being here together, we increase our blessings.

I recently wrote a Pity Party note on Facebook. I put away my sorrows there for the winter, where they can nap and I can heal and revisit in the Spring. Works for me. Trouble is, the new sorrow is a restless dreamer and keeps popping up. I'll live, and I'll be happy, I just have to acknowledge the path I've traveled has had some rough bumps. I know everyone here has had hard times, but you're all survivors and shall be joyous when the time is right, and weep when you need to clear your heart.

LOL, and now you all know I'm nutty.....

No! you are not an idiot at all... you shared a beautiful thought and I felt it deeply. That is a good thing. Really, thank you. I know I get weepy right now, and I am okay with that. Keep sharing, I may not express myself so well sometimes, but I did like it a lot. Tears are one of those things which come when they will, I don't mind because it means I am remembering the best brother ever.
