HI all;

Happy New Year to everyone.  Welcome to the new moms, now I'm not the newest mom on the block.

Kim--love the pics of the new grandson, he's handsome guy!

BLM-What a beautiful pic of the wedding, congrats.

T-Lynn - Post a pic of the snow, at the rate its going here, don't know if there will be snow this year.  The ski resorts in the Sierra Mountains have opened.

Well, here I am sitting at the computer and getting ready for my sailor to come in tomorrow.  I only have to get groceries tomorrow, before arrives.  I was finally adjusted to the quiet after he left, and he's coming back for a few days.  I can't wait for the boy noises.  I'm sure Baxter, his kitten will welcome him home, too!

To Youngestson, have you tried to contact a local Blue Star Mom Group in your area of Illinois.  I know there are some in your state.  Being a member of Blue Star Moms helped me through my son's first deployments out of Norfolk.

Maggs - glad to hear that your are feeling better.

Tempts dropping and we finally got snow. I mean snow!

So we have been sending pics to our sailor. He just sends back messages of - it figures. Then sends us pics of the sunny warm beaches.

Well, yes, I am excited but this waiting! Last night kids finally got that baby room done. Crib is up, so I started calling Riker's name telling him his room is all done and he can come now. So NOW she has been having regular contractions - still home-  but that baby has to come soon.

Welcome aboard New Moms :)

I live in Machesney Park, IL - north of Rockford, IL. So you have someone in the same state . Maybe we can meet one day,.

OH yes, plan what to put in the boxes. And do send extra treats for sailors to share. One questions - your sailors got their long johns? They will need them in some areas of Japan. You might want to get a couple pair of long johns to send. Japan does not carry sizes that fit our guys. And teh NEX sometimes runs out. Plus - do they have their past ports? If not - help them get it.

I can just see Nolan becoming a star on his skies

Yippee -  Howl at teh Moon in Boston. OH yes - got to go!

Kim must be collect baby hugs and practicing spoiling.

Need to get - Laundry Fairy is visiting. And I have to visit with her. It is one of those must visits.

take care all hugs

Brrrrrrrr it's cold here!  Temps have been dropping all day but no snow yet...I'm bummed...I love snow!

Welcome Busmom and Youngestson!

Hugs to you youngestson.  I was a blubbering mess the day my son left for Japan...over 2 years ago.  Stay on this group we'll keep you company.  We talk about anything and everything on here and it really helps to pass the time and keeps us sane too!  Let us know when you hear from your son.  It's hard to watch them leave but very exciting when they call home and tell you about the new things they're doing and the places they're seeing.  Agree, they love packages from home!

Love the pic of Nolan on skis!

Oh Tlynn don't say you're not excited....we know better!  New babies arriving we're all excited!!!!

Blondie, you're new years resolution should be to slow down....not gonna happen though, is it?  Daughters wedding gives you a lot to look forward too and so happy she gets to go into Reserves.  The Navy can't afford to lose a good gal like your daughter.

Take care everyone and hope you all are having a great day!

Phones...in addition to the local phone, you can set up something like Vonage, and there are plenty of free texting apps. He can Skype, there are hot spots on base. Usually not on the ships or in the barracks.. That 13 hour time difference is an obstacle though.

ANother windy day here-been so many lately!  Through 7pm, winds gusting up to 65!  Long as the power stays on, I'm good.

T-lynn, ha ha , Nolan saw other kids doing crazy stuff & that is where he wanted to go! He Is tall for his age, which is awesome seeing as he was a preemie.
I will get excited for you! Whoo Hoo!  another Babywatch!!!

Welcome, new moms
Busmom, the other sailors will clue him in on phones, but yes, they need to get a Japan phone. Ours don't work there. He can suspend his service for his U.S. phone-just tell them he is military-and then when he comes back or for a visit , all he has to do is call them.

Youngest son, hugs to you-so hard when they just leave, especially the first time. I cried all the way home. Leaves you feeling empty. Ask any questions-someone or other will be able to answer! Now, don't expect to hear too much the first couple weeks, as they are soo busy settling in, getting stuff in order, dealing with time change.    Best thing to do is go to post office and get some free boxes and start planning those care packages!  Start accumulating what will go in them and imagine the fun when they receive the box.  Stuff from home that they can't get there, news articles, treats (enough to share), small games.....

When they arrive in Japan, they go through a three day intercultural class. That covers quite a lot.
His current phone won't work there.

T-Lynn note to self we also have a Howl at the Moon here in Boston so if you or your sailor is ever lucky enough to come here you'll have a familiar place to hang out.

part 2

Don't want to run out of space.

Here it is snowing. Figures - sailor left yesterday and now it snows. We had a green Christmas and New Year. At one point hubby did bring out the mower. Not to mow, but that grass sure looked like it needed mowing - but get the gas out of the tank. Sailor really bummed about no snow. So hubby just sent a picture. Waiting for response.

Here we have had two more trips to hospital for possible baby. Still no baby -  but was told minutes ago - labor pains appear to coming on. I am not getting excited. I am going to wait until it happens.

Did have a great visit with sailor though. He took us out for dinner and a breakfast. One was in Chicago. He so wanted a REAL Offical Chicago Cub's Jersey - with the 100 year old Chicago Wriggly Fields patch and Ryan Sandburgs name and number. Well he got! Yes we got a picture - working on it to get posted.  then we were to ghost hunting or tour. But the ghost were all on vacation. So sailor looked something to do and found a place called Howl at the Moon. Dueling painos and bar. Well, he purchased for me - a Pink Paradise. It came in a bucket. I got bring teh bucket home !!!  Never again. Bucket that is.

Then when he thought his nephew was going to born - he purchased cigar to hand out. Not the cheap ones but CIGARS ! He took one back with him to light up when the baby gets here.

I think I am caught up. Well, if I remember anything I'll post it later. Wish all a great year hugs

HI

 Happy New Year All.

1. !!!!! Congrats New Grandma Kim !!! He is so beautiful. The hospital sounds perfect and I think it was so nice that his CO came by.

2. Blondie - naturally you are busy. If you won't I would worry about you. I have heard that the flu is on teh move and how bad it is. Keep well dear friend. And congrats to daughter for getting in the reserves. Any updates on Jack?

3. Yea - I'm listing again. I hope this helps me remember all I want to  say.

4. Nolan looks so - SO big now. But he looks so confident on his new skis. Maybe the next Olympic Gold Skier?

5. Welcome aboard new moms. Glad you are here and already jumping into the water - that means - sharing about your self and sailor and any gossip you wish to share is awesome too. About that Version bill - Isn't there someone to call at Version to get that bill gone? I think showing papers that your sailor is on deployment is all that is needed. But fussing on this issue. Agree - NO car. Save money.

5. blm - the wedding picture is beautiful. But share stories please.

6. What a birthday surprise -  sailor home!!!!

Oh dear - I know I forgot something to say or comment about. Maybe my brain will kick in soon.

My son agrees with the comments about no one gets a car.  Even the civilian DoD people I know  that lived there for a year at a time did not get a car.  Bicycle yes.  Walk, commute, rent cabs.  Occasionally they would rent a car.
