HI

Wow - the conversations bring back memories when my son was stationed at Sasebo. Same subjects too - bikes or motor bikes, those cell phones and calls home - and then sleep. giggling here.

Do hope all goes well DREW7062. Keep us posted on how things go for him.

Bondie - so good to hear you TOLD your boss - you are going to have major ME Time. Yippe. And I so enjoy the saying - as I read it - I thought someone had created it just for you.

Gee - Maggs, kids are our kids no matter what age. The YoYo roller coaster must be the new updated ride of our Emotional Roller Coaster. Hang on gf - we'll all join you.

Wish all a great week. Fall will be here on Wednesday and I can say I am already enjoying the cooler weather. No leaves changing as yet. But I really would like that to happen nearer to Halloween. Need to get all - I have to type of scout stuff,

hugs

I had my bike stolen on Yokosuka base decades ago.  It is a common thing.  Bikes can be purchased at the NEX, or special ordered, or bought from a departing sailor.  A good lock is a must, as well as registering it with base security.

Here's the thing about Japan: while they are incredibly honest, two things are fair game for theft bikes and umbrellas.  They're almost like communal property. I locked mine always, even off base.

Advice: cheap bike, expensive lock.  And yes, I'd trust my life to a shipmate, but never my wallet.  Even my dad experience theft in the Navy in the 50s!

A scooter is a good alternative, or a motorcycle.  They can order them brand new through New Car Sales on base.  That's how we got our first Harley.  No tax!

My son has been in Yokosuka for a year. He also works in the Hospital.
He believes another service member stole his bike. One that was moving to another station or moving back state side. The Japanese people are very honest and have chased people down to return their dropped belongings. Unfortunatly our servicemen not so much. My son in laws computer was stolen out of his berthing area on the carrier he was deployed on. One of the doctors rides his bike all the time according to my son and is also trying to help my son find a used bike.

2tymenavymom: thanks soon much... Oh my they stole his bike? I went online and looked at the crime rate in Japan it was almost unheard of lol. Stole his bike huh. Guess there's crime everywhere. I was thinking of surprising him and buying a bike and have it sent to his apartment and he could take it to the central location. I don't know ugh... He really needs a bike and I want to sends to him or pay here and have him get it there. If anyone know anymore suggestions please let me know. Thanks again how long has your son been in Japan. DREW7062, he should purchase a new there otherwise the cost are going to be exorbinate with his US phone. A bike to get around Japan is a bonus. there is supposidly a bike store right outside the base. My son bought a bike here and shipped it to Japan but others have purchased at the store I mentioned. Keep in mind they are required to keep their bikes in a central area, not in their roomns. My sons bike was stolen about three months after he got it. He was not happy. I believe the store I mentioned also sells insurance. He might also want to look on one of the local facebook resale pages. That is where my son is looking for his next bike.
As far as the sleeping my son did ok but I know sometimes when I talk with him he is just taking the whole day to just sleep. So maybe it's just something they have to do every now and then due to their schedules. My son is in Yokosuka as well.

My son had one here also, but we canceled that one and he purchased new one in Japan with international plan I think. They should be able to help him there
