My son only emailed me.  He had access to computer on the ship and emailed me more when he was underway.  As soon as he returned, I wouldn't hear from him for weeks or over a month.

Word of advice.  Get your sailor to put you on the Ombudsman list.

My sailor was on a long deployment and there was a man overboard.  Part of procedure is to shut down all outgoing communication.  The captain contacted the Ombudsman who forwarded a letter from the captain to everyone on her list.  The letter assured everyone that family had been notified and it wasn't our sailor.  The mom posted on the N4M site for the ship and let us know that the family knew within hours of the situation.

"No News is Good News".  The navy looks after their families.   Don't Worry!  They are in experienced hands.

This was the ship that my son went to after Japan.  I posted the story on the N4M site for his ship in Japan and a mom lived close.  She went to the funeral and gave the family hugs from all of us.  The funeral was live on the internet and many of us where able to watch.

Today's technology is great for families to stay in touch, but it is a security concern.  Sometimes they temporarily take away outgoing emails during an underway but they usually can read your emails.  I would send a couple a week.  He would read them all at once.

DREWW7062 - Don't panic. If your son is on a ship as mine is, you need to prepare yourself with far and few conversations. As PeachyNavyMom said there will be some periods of time that he is not able to communicate.I was able to get through it by shopping for my son and sending care packages, letters with pics and a lot of private messages on facebook. I also follow the ship on facebook. It gives me comfort in knowing kinda where they are or where they have been and what they are up to. Hang in there. We are all here to support you. Navy Hugs

DREW7062 Oh my goodness no no no you misunderstand or perhaps I miscommunicated. No, he has been over there a year and half, but it was a little over a month since I had communicated. It happens some when they are underway. There will be some periods like this, but it is different for each sailor and their loved ones. I hope he enjoys Yoko. My son is enjoying it very much. He loves all the travel. He is also glad to be back in port. All the best to your sailor, perhaps they on the same ship. My apologies if by any means I miscommunicated or upset you.

PEACHYNAVYMOM: you didn't hear from your son for a year and a half!!!!!!! OMG I would be nuts. Is this what I have to look forward to my son is in Yokokuska he's been there for 3 weeks

HI Moms. I finally heard from my sailor they are back in Yoko at port for a bit. The ship will be going through maintenance. It was just awesome to hear from him and know he is ok. Over a year and half now, but my heart still aches and always will. As I know ours all do.

Momplus2 Congrats and Welcome home Sailor. I can only imagine how excited you must be to have him home.

Just wanted to say welcome to all the new Moms in the group. I am not typically very chatty, but I try, am trying. I know how it feels.

Amazing Labor Day Just a few hours of out of town away with hubby and daughter time, but tranquil, relaxing and yet invigorating. 3 waterfalls and a lake visited, had a nice picnic, and lots of fresh air. Ahhhh.... that's me feeling like I can just breathe for a bit.

CHERYL-TEDS MOM9- Hi and happy Labor Day, well how my son described he said when you first walk in you walk into like a kitchen and a bathroom off to the right or left. That's it what they share and then each sailor has their own key to get into their own personal area. In other words I'm assuming the living room and bedroom is their private area and no one can enter. I guess they get something more private once they get higher in rank. I don't know but Good luck

T-Lynn- You and so many others have convinced me to stay. This is where I turned my tears to strength. I will never forget that!! My son will be training in Mississippi for the EOD. I wish it was SD.That is only 8 hour drive from me. The training will be one month from what I understand. Where will your son be stationed at after his training?

HI

 Happy Labor Day all !

And is everyone doing their Happy Dance for a SAILOR coming home !!!!!! ?

Remember  a Navy Mom - especially a Navy Pan Mom - gets the first hug ! Shove anyone out of the way - it is allowed.  You said he had EOD weapons training in SD, Californai? That is where my sailor is stationed now - in EOD /Armory . My sailor was just talking about some trainings that took place. Maybe our sailors met :). And - NO - you cannot leave this site - you are stuck with us :).

Oh - if only I knew how to can. My mouth is watering Blondie. Espeically that Hot Pepper Jam. Never had it - so is it spicey sweet or a hot sweet taste?

Maggs- awesome photos. I hope you have sent some of these photos to Nature Magazines - you are so talented. I am sharing your photos with my sailor - he loves nature. And if you remember He sent a pic of a mantis that was on board his ship. I know I did post that pic too.

Grand son now has 2 teeth. And he is still chewing up a storm, I get the feeling now the uppers are coming in. I need to go to fb page to get more photos to share.

Kids here are doing fine - getting ready for a cook out today. I made deviled eggs adn hubby cut up the melons. And will be cooking the hamburgers and hot dogs.

AS for right now - I have Me Time - so I got on for a gossip fix and to share.

I am so happy - I have my Halloween decor up.    Love it and later this month will get teh dead flamingos out. Still need more tombstones for them. Then i can't wait to get pumpkins!!!! Plus, apple picking time - so that means fresh baked apple pies. ( just felt my pants get tighter)

I wish I took notes, I loved all teh gossip that was shared.

Need to slit - Laundry Fairy came for a visit too.

Wish all  a great day hugs

Good morning ladies, finally catching up on your dish'n.

Great news Momplus2 ! Agree with Blondie & Maggs. I am still a Pensacola Mom, sailor going to Guam will just let you meet new friends.

Question - sailor is in Yokosuka and finally is being allowed to get an apartment but he is not having much luck. Per him Century21 is the worst. Does anyone have any suggstions on how he should proceed? DREW7062  you mentioned that your sailor has his own place, any ideas ?

Keep the baby pics coming. Longing to having little ones back in my life but I want my boys well settled before the grandbabies come. They are not there yet. Luckily I have my little kid fix a few Labor Day parties this weekend.

Keep the news com'n. Happy Labor Day.
