Kim - Congrats to your son!  1st Class that's awesome!!!!

Congrats to all the sailors who advanced.  My son didn't make it...I'm hoping he's not too bummed.  When I talked to him last week he told me the percentage of those advancing in his rate had been dropped from the previous period.  He'll automatically advance when he graduates his next school but he was hoping to get it sooner.

Welcome TerriNavyMom!  My son is on the GW.  With the carrier swap happening this year who knows.  Like AntiM said she could stay in Japan but if they want her on the ship they'll fly her out to it.  Keep us updated!

Vicky - thanks for letting us know your son made it...always a sigh of relief for us moms. You can breathe a little easier now. Hope he likes Japan most of them do.

mtnmom - so nice to hear from you and glad you had that family get together.  Hope you all had a wonderful time.

Keeping fingers crossed for rain in California.  Wish I could send some of ours.

Kim, every command/base has a career counselor, someone trained to specifically address career concerns and or cross-rating.  In fact, the counselors themselves had to cross rate to NC (navy counselor).

There is a chance she will stay in Japan with the new carrier coming over, the Ronald Reagan.  They are trying to leave most of the crew in place, using just enough to get the carriers to their new homeports.  They are trying not to uproot the families if possible.  Hard to tell what will happen with a single sailor!  Hang in there!

My Youngest Daughter just finished up her A School training and has been home with us for 14 days and will be flying over to Japan later next week... She is supposed to join the USS GW but not sure how since it appears that USS GW has just left Japan to return to the USA .. ?  !! Not sure what will happen but will leave it in the Navy/ God's Hands to take care of her and us too.

I hear you 2tyme.  My sailor had a different issue beyond his control that was making it impossible. (don't want to explain on here).

He is taking 9 credits this summer and this is a huge blessing for him.

Your son has the right attitude.  All the reviews, pass-not-advance, awards, etc. give him points toward advancement.

Has your son looked into cross-rating?  Now would be the time to prepare for it.   Legalman requires 2 college level English classes that could be done online.  I think CTI is a needed rate.

AntiM, who would be the best person to counsel him on this in Japan?

TLynn, Didn't your son cross-rate into a needed rate?

Comment by 2tymeNavyMom on May 20, 2015 at 6:12pm

Congrats to your son Kim.  My son is in a rate that is locked so he does not expect to advance anytime soon.  He continues to work hard and do a great job hoping that if the upper ups notice they will at least give him a good rating which will eventually go towards him making the next rank.

Blondie, Safe travels and congrats to your sailor on getting married.

Mtn mom, I'm south of you so yes, please everyone here pray for rain.  It's getting bad here.

I too enjoy the Grandkid photos. My oldest sailor got out of the Navy but married someone still in and about to deploy so I have been informed it will be at least 16 months before they even start thinking about it. Oh well, they are young and I hope they enjoy being married before having Children.  Youngest sailor is the one in Japan and he has to find someone first (he's picky) before all that.  He's only 20 so still plenty of time.

Take Care all and enjoy Memorial weekend.  I will be planting flags at our Veterans Cemetary in honor of those who have served.

VIckey, tell us about your son and what he will be doing.

Huggs to Birdiejr.  You too Dramasoul, I hope you feel better soon.

Blondie, It looks like a great weekend for a wedding!

Mtnmom, great to hear from you.

Mississippimom, good luck to your daughter.

Joshmom, YEAH!  But you will always be a Japan mom.  It's a rule, nobody is allowed to leave.

My sailor phoned today with great news.  He made 1st class!  He was so excited on the phone.  I have pictures from his last 2 frockings in Japan.  I wonder if I will be able to see this one in person?

Hi all;

Haven't been on in quite a while, I have been reading the posts.  Everyone is sooooooooooo busy, with weddings, grandbabies and springs stuff.  Same thing happening here.  Had to have my yard weedwacked by 5/1, got it finished 4/30.  Just got back from LA, my 2 sisters, brother and I celebrated my Mom's 100th birthday and 15th year of her passing this weekend.  The 4 of us haven't been togerther for over two years.  The weather in LA was beautiful.  It supposed to snow in the mountains tonight and tomorrow, I'm glad, we need every drop of snow or rain here in Central California.

My sailor (son) seems to be enjoying Japan, and short Underway's.  I talked with him Thursday morning for about an hour.  He sounded so good.  We used ChatHeads software this time.

Well, have to scoot, everyone have a wonder Memorial Day Weekend, and to mom's with weddings this weekend, don't stress, ENJOY the wedding.

Good morning all!! And thanks again for your encouraging words.

Momplus2, Thank you for your kind words. Good idea about the games.

Maggi, LOL

Vicky, Where will your sailor be? Mine is Atsugi. He loves it! Hang in there!!

Joshmom, Our boys must be on the GDubb together but mine will move to the RR. Congrats on his return to States. Mine has two more years. He loves it there!

DramaSoul, They thought my youngest had Hashimoto's. That is no joke. Will remember you in my prayers.

Miss, Sounds like you had loads of fun!! Congrats on your girl's graduation.

Blondie, Thinking about you this week! Hoping for smooth sailing for you and your sailors.

I am suffering thru migraines (triggered by the Tropical Storm Ana) while trying to keep on working on wedding stuff. My girl wants a big wedding in 3.5 months so we are working hard. My husband is working tirelessly to pay for it. My oldest girl lives in Puerto Rico and is helping as she can from afar.

Wishing everyone a good day!! Hooyah!!
