hello all;

I am a much happier mom now, he called me about 2 hours ago.  He his safe on his ship, he tried to call me last night, but I guess I didn't hear it.  He says he will be emailing me his mailing address, which will be just in time for my Blue Star Moms' Packaging party next week.  He tells me he will be gone for two years and that he probably use his leave  time to explore the Orient.  I really can't blame him, he joined the Navy to see the world, and that he is doing.  I only wish I could see some of the places he's been to and will be getting to see.

Welcome mtnmom & cuka!

mtnmom - hope you hear from your son soon and please let us know when you do.  We all understand how you feel.  I hope you stay with us....this is a chatty group....we talk about anything & everything but it helps to keep us sane!

cuka - my son is on the GW has been for almost 2 years now.  He likes Japan and has had no problems on the ship but of course he keeps valuables locked up.  2015 is going to be an exciting year for the GW.  I haven't made it to Japan but nothing is going to keep me from seeing that big ole ship pull into the USA next year!   Congrats to your daughter on her graduation and enjoy having her home!

Blondie - only you could fall like that...you had me rolling, laughing with ya not at ya!  Laughter is the best medicine.  YES to the DRESS!  and free!  Awesome!  She deserves it!  Hooray for the raise....no where near what you deserve but glad they are realizing what all you do.

Have a great evening ladies!

I believe she said Yokosuka.  She does have 2 buddies there already, I am certain that will help her transition.  Thank you for the welcome.

Hi, I am new as well. My daughter is graduating EN school at Great Lakes today.  She will be home next Wed for 15 days, then off to Japan. She said she will be on the USS George Washington, but will stay in Japan after the Carrier leaves in 2015, that  will be her home port.  This is all very new and exciting/scary for us.

Good morning moms:

Thank you for the welcomes.  The lost feeling is still here, and probably will be until I  hear from him.  All the information you suggested has been done as he has deployed a couple of other times.  I am used to doing all those things, its the not hearing if he's there yet.

My son is my only boy, and enlisted at 19, his older sister is married and has 4 adopted children.  I was widowed 14 years ago and live about 1 hour away from Yosemite National Park.  I am semi-retired, I only work 15 -20 hours per week instead of almost 70.  Life is quiet and blessed.

I pass the Biggest Klutz trophy on to you.  I was beginning to think that no one would take it off my hands.

Welcome mtnmom.  Most popular advice is:  Sailor will not need a passport to travel on orders (vacation home is orders), but we suggest they get one before leaving.  It is also a good idea to get a power of attorney to handle their business while they are out of the country.  Put their phone on military hold when they leave.  All providers will do it and they will turn it on and prorate the bill if they come home to visit.  Make sure they get long johns before they leave.  Go to your post office and get large flat rate boxes and custom forms.  You pay domestic prices to ship to FPO Box and there is a military discount for large.  Explain to your sailor that you will worry if you do not hear them them.  Someone over there will lend a phone or there are free calls at the USO.  They also need to email their email address and FPO address asap.  Jump in everyone, if I missed anything.

Tell us about your sailor and yourself.  We are a chatty group and get to know each other.  We don't leave.  My son is now stateside as a navy recruiter and is married to a girl from Japan.  They are expecting their first child Dec. 24th.  We are all here for you.

It was in the high 60's here today!  Felt like summer- going to feel like winter by the weekend.
Kim, oh to be young and brave.  Good advice to check into lodging.
Joshmom, yea! state quarter-finals-wow!  Is the game nearby or will you be traveling this weekend?  Good Luck!!!
Blondie, aww, hugs for everything-wish you could be dress shopping-I feel so bad for you.       And you fell! ouch! I'm so sorry things are not good for you right now.    Hang in there, something will give and it Will get better again.  Praying for a speedy recovery and , oh yes, Kim is right about work. Only so much you can do.
