Good morning Ky Navy moms! I wanted to share a funny story I had with my son last night. I had texted him on Thursday to wish him a happy Veterans Day, but I did not hear anything back from him. So last night, I texted him and asked him when the accident happened that broke all his fingers. He texted me back and asked "Huh?". I texted him that since I had not heard anything from him for over a week, I just knew he must have broken all his fingers because that would be the only reason he wouldn't keep in touch with his mom! He texted me back and said "Lol, Mom ur crazy!" At least it worked and I got to talk with him! Hope everyone has a blessed weekend.

Thanks for the ideas. My son loves to read when he's not playing his guitar. He bought himself a small acoustic guitar that he plays and it fits into his compartment. I'd never heard of a Nook or Kindle. I'll get these ideas to my other kids so that they will know what to buy him for Christmas.

Babrams - Here's some ideas that might be things to get a sailor that is on a ship for Christmas: a Nook or Kindle (if they are a reader); a pre-loaded Visa gift card; a gift certificate to help pay on a month's cell phone bill; gift cards or coupons for fast food places that would be found in most ports; a digital photo keychain or small photo frame that holds digital pictures; donating to a charity in the sailor's name; you can go on the Navy Nex website and order a gift NEX card that is re-loadable and you can personalize it with a photo of your choosing. Hope some of these ideas are helpful.

Thanks NurseNavyMom and Dolphin. We are celebrating Christmas while he's here too.
He is on a ship and we had no idea what to get him for Christmas so we had both of his guitars refinished. I can't wait to see his face when he opens the cases to play them. Does anyone have any ideas on what to get the sailors who are on ships? They don't have a lot of room to store things and his siblings have no ideas.

Hi Ericsmom, Welcome to our Ky group! My son has been out from boot camp for a year and half now, but boy do I remember those days. Have you joined the boot camp moms group on here yet? Be sure to join that group because you will have so much in common with them right now. You also need to join the group that will be formed of the moms that have sons or daughters in your son's division of boot camp. That group might not be formed yet, but keep watching for it and join it. I still keep in touch with the moms from my son's boot camp division group and I still check in on the boot camp moms group to re-live those days when my son was in boot camp. I have so many memories of those weeks when my son was in boot camp. I'm not going to lie to you - it was an emotional roller coaster. Right now those days of boot camp will seem to go by so slowly for you, but before you know it, you will be planning your trip to go watch him graduate from boot camp for PIR. That day of graduation will be a day filled with so much pride and joy for you. It is an amazing day and sooo worth the wait and all those days of boot camp. Feel free to ask any questions you may have - this is a great group of ladies and we're all here to support you. God Bless you and your son!

Hi All - I just had to share this. My sons leave was approved so he gets to come home for Thanksgiving!! I was worried b/c he had bought a plane ticket in October and hadn't heard anything until yesterday. He figured he would be stuck on the ship doing drills. God is so good to me!!!

Hi ericsmom - My son PIR'd on 6/25/10 and when he left for boot camp he told me not to write to him at all and not to send him a birthday card. (his birthday was in June) Well, when he got to call home for the first time he told me to write to him everyday if I had the time. (so I did) I asked him if it was ok if I sent him a singing birthday card b/c he loves music and plays guitar. He said to have everyone send him a different singing card b/c all the guys loved to hear the music. (it was the only time they were allowed to listen to music) Your son will do fine but it's hard not to worry about them. Do you know when he graduates and what division he is in? You can type in Recruit Training Command to get more information on what to expect and when they graduate. I found it very helpful when my son left. I didn't know about this N4M's site back then so I did some research on my own. I will keep you both in my prayers.

Donna, thanks for the encouragment. What a good way to start my Monday. This is my, and Erics, first full week. I am feeling better, and I know that he is too. Thank you again for the insight and words of wisdom.

Dolphin, thanks for the support. How is your boy doing??? I worry about my son. This will be his first full week. Just wish I could talk to him. Soon........ I saw that there was a retreat at Kentucky Dam. That would have been great. I didnt log into this site until about 1 week ago, and so glad that I did.
