Knit for the Navy

A group for those who knit or crochet that would like to blanket our sailors with a touch of home. Our goal is to blanket the entire Navy.

Ok, here are the basics. We are asking for handmade blankets/afghans that are twin bed size or smaller. You can knit, crochet, quilt, or make the hand tied (no sew) fleece blankets. (We are open to any other methods as well.) Any pattern or color, that is up to your creativity. Just be sure they are tasteful and appropriate.

After I receive the blanket/afghan, they will be collected and distributed to the ship of the month. Look for pictures of the finished blankets/afghans posted here. Any questions or suggestions can be sent to me or posted on our message board here. Thank you all for your help.

Due to the HUGE cost of shipping blankets, I am very sad to say that I can no longer accept blankets to mail to the ships. I hope that everyone will continue to enjoy the group and come together for friendship and support. Thank you so much everyone who make blankets for our sailors. I know that they appreciated them.

Terri, I'm mailing an afgan off to you this afternoon. Its the pink one I started ages ago. I'm working on a knitted on now and will hopefully have that one done by early July.

Hi Terri, I don't mind at all. My mother, who passed away last fall, loved to knit. However, she never sewed anything. She'd knit everything from baby sweaters to afgans. Then she'd say to me,"you don't mind putting this together for me, do you?" We were making great progress in unpacking, until we tried to replace the dishwasher. Thats when we discovered the previous owner had tiled the legs to the floor. After much consideration, I decided that the only way to deal with the situation was to replace the entire kitchen. Now the joke in the family is that the dishwasher is costing $12,000. Anyway, I'm now in the process of packing everything from the old kitchen back into boxes. Oh well, since I can't cook, I'll have plenty of time to knit and crotchet.

Terri, I've finally finished the afgan that I started before we moved. I'll be sending it on to you later in the week. I'd be glad to sew the squares together for you. I really don't mind doing it.

Terri, I thougtht I'd remind you that if you are still interested in applying to Westinghouse for the grant money, now is the time to make out the forms. The next awards are scheduled for July 1st. If you need any of the information, I can send that to you.

Hi Terri, I've been off line for a little while,so I've missed a lot. Are we still doing afgans for the Higgins? I'm working on a pink afgan. Should I stop that one and go back to making one more suited to the guys on a sub? Any luck getting in touch with the Tennessee? May I suggest finding a Tennessee wife? She might help with the delivery or timing for the sub.

First off Ken's mom....WOOHOO for you and yours.
I also think that Anita's has a great idea and if we can figure how to grow our group I'd be all for it .......but look up Terri your baby is 91 STRONG.......
I missed out on the crochet books but now that I know that someone would want them. I will take them and then ask next time
Terri I really think we could swap who we ship to ......that way you can get rid of some the boxes.
I got my grades and I have to share because it was such a physically hard semester.....I got 3A's and 1B so I'm happy I stuck it out

Terri since it is a sub. having a son on a sub....We don't want to KNOW where they are or when they will be back..".they aren't supposed to tell us". ......We could try to get a hold of the ombudsman it see if she can give us a shipping address I will try and contact her or maybe we could ship them to the Higgins and the next bunch to the TN...just a thought

Terri, I'm also on the sub mom's list. I'll check there and see if the Tennessee is deployed.
