Hi all is this group active? About to jump into first deployment experience and I am scared but know that I can't do a thong about it so I just need to manage my worries and be a rock for my son.

Can anyone tell me the cost of sending a standard letter to Kuwait?  My daughter in law has her first letter ready to go.  I am working with her tonight to be her signed up on Navy for Moms, the problem is she is in LA and I am in MI, so hard to tell her instructions via text.  I think she is going to love it.

Thank you Judy for that information.  I forgot that they don't go with pillows, so I will definitely send one over.  My son said there was talk about getting a PO box at the Army camp, don't know if that would be better for mail.  My son is a Seabee, so maybe lots of sun screen would be a good starter too.  My husband has a bunch of car magazines, so some of those will be included.  Oh and the Funyons - he has got to have them.  I worry because he was just married 2 months ago and has a child on the way.  He was very depressed about missing the birth, but realizes he has to do his job to support them.  I keep telling myself that if I can make it through 2 months of boot camp, I can do this time as well.  I keep figuring what time it is there.  Sending text, not knowing if he will get them.  But the effort is there.

My son is new there and I am anxious to send out a package to him.  I asked about what goodies he would like before he left.  Definitely planning on sending new socks because I don't think they will ever have enough.  How long does it usually take for them to receive a package?  Does anyone know how the communications are there?  Will he be able to use cell phone or Skype?

Just found out my son who is a MA will be leaving for Kuwait in early spring...any comments on what to expect?  This is his first deployment and we have no idea what to expect.

So do any of you folks have any ideas of what we could send our son in Kuwait for Christmas?  We keep sending flatrate boxes with food, cookies, pumpkin bread, toiletries, etc.  Trying to figure out something a little unique for Christmas.  Any thoughts?

Anyone have anyone in Camp Virginia? Im so sad, my fiance just got there about a week or so ago and there is really no way we can communicate. I know it is Kuwait and I figured it was going to be rough connections but from various people I have heard that have people over there, they said that the internet was decent so know Im thinking maybe it depends on the camp? Im just so frustrated. And then he found out for internet he actually has to pay for it, $5 for an hour or they can pay $28 per month but the thing is he payed for an hour and he could barely get a connection. So why would you want to pay almost $30 a month for crappy internet? Im just a wreck..but if anyone has any advice or things that you have done in order to communicate in Kuwait please let me know, I'm desperate. Im grateful he is safe and that is really all I care about, but it would be nice to hear from him once and a while:( Help.

Hi Cheryl,
My name is Allie. My fiancee is getting ready to go IA (Individual augmentee) to Kuwait for a year plus. He is at a training camp in NJ right now training as an MA (Master at Arms) and then assigned to leave sometime in October. I don't understand a whole bunch about it all, and I still have a lot to learn, but I do understand a few things. Apparently, depending on the camp they are stationed at really depends on a few things. But from what I hear you definitely want to have SKYPE downloaded. It is probably the best way to communicate. From what I was told by others, calling from Kuwait is expensive. Calling cards are also an option. One mom I talked to said that her son actually bought a phone over there! So Im kinda curious as to what to expect with communication too. I also heard that there is a nex on base, just like any other base and many sailors can get a lot of the things they need there along with the special stuff we all like to send them! :)
Im sorry I don't understand more! But Im also kind of feeling in the dark with most things too, so I would love to chat! Im glad that he doesn't have to leave until March, so you can spend a little more time with him:) Everything will all be ok and I would really love to chat. My sailor will be over there for a bit before yours leaves, so I can give you some more info and sorta what to expect once he gets there! I hope all is well, and if you ever want to chat, my inbox is always open!

Hi my name is Allie. I am not a Navy mom, but a Navy fiancee. We are all the same in a sense, cause we all know the great fear and pain of not being with our loved ones. Im so glad that I found this group. My fiancee is getting ready to deploy over to Kuwait and I am so freaking scared. He is in training right now, which has been to him like a mini boot camp. This has been so hard and he isn't even over there yet. I don't mean to seem like a wimp, I'm just a wreck. Im good at being strong for him, but the second we hang up the phone I fall apart. He is going to be an MP. SO if anyone knows anything at all about this, I would greatly appreciate it. I know the time zones are different but its really the safety and stuff like that, that worries me. I know we will find a rhythm and work out with whatever we have to do as a team, but I'm still just so scared, I could cry:( Im learning to cope with him leaving but the unknowns, like most of you know, are scary! Thank you for letting me be apart of the group and I cant wait to chat with you all. Thank you.
