Donna - there's a nice mall nearby with a theatre, you can take the train from the base to the downtown area. Most of all plan some time to just hang out at hotel and chill out. They need that more than anything. Give 'em a chance to make a lot of p…

Congratulations, Darcy. Getting A school done is a big step cause it signals the end of life in a training command and the beginning of life in an operational command. The pace picks up from here on out. :)

Brenda Sue - congratulations on the E4! Dano's gotta wait before he can sit for the exam. I think they messed him up while on hold at Great Lakes - he should have been able to take the test in Sept and missed it I think.

Humph. Dishes? What are those? Short answer: No. Actually we had 15 pp here so we used paper plates and flatware and just chucked them. They were very willing to help put away the turkey, sweet potatoes, green bean caserole, pie and large quantities…

Vivian and Glen,

I just read your post and think it is wonderful that you opened your hearts and family to invite some sailors to join you for your family festivities. God's blessings on you for that kindness. Yvonne and I did the same thing here in Virginia Beach. I can't imagine these young people not being able to go home and having to sit in the galley for Thanksgiving dinner. Yuk! Again, blessings on you.

I just checked out your page and realized you're in Charlottesville -- I'm excited to finally find someone in VA beside me! I'm just outside Richmond. When Jenn was in Portsmouth, she drove home nearly every weekend. It was the perfect assignment after A School -- far enough away for her to get used to being on her own, yet close enough to home so we could see her frequently and help her with emergencies. When she finally did get to do some traveling with the Navy it was for short assignments - 2 months, 2 weeks, 6 months, etc. She's in Sicily now -- 2-3 years and it has been a tough adjustment for her.

I have a few pictures on my page back from when Jenn was with the MSF. Be sure your son gets you on the newsletter mailing list and gets your contact information to the ombudsman. They were great communicators when Jenn was down there.
