Latest Activity: Jul 21, 2022

Hello everyone and welcome to the Navy!!! This Group was started for the loved one of DEPPERS leaving in the month of April (although everyone is welcome).......What year you say? Well ......any year!

If you have April ship out issues/questions etc., need specific information, (or have some to share) or just want to talk to someone that is where you are, with a Recruit leaving for and arriving in BC in April, ...then this is the place to be. :-)

Remember, don't "miss 'em while you're with them!" :) Make the most of every precious moment together before they leave. This will be a big transition for both of you! We'll be here for you every step of the way...
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Things to do in the last month before your future sailor leaves (Click on the link.)

Once your recruit has arrived at RTC, the next stop here is to join the group Boot Camp for Moms (and loved ones)  Hangout and ask questions in this group until your form letter arrives.

***New news just out today (9/25/19) from the US Navy Recruit Training Command FaceBook page:
Attention families and friends of RTC: Previously, upon arrival to boot camp, recruits would box up their civilian belongings and ship it to their choice of destination. Our new procedure now has those boxes being stored locally and will be returned to the recruits the day before graduation. The new procedure went into effect this week beginning with Div. 409 in Training Group 52.

Approx two to three weeks after your recruit arrives you will receive the "Form Letter". The form letter will include their Ship# , DIV #, their mailing address, PIR date, and the Security Access Form. The Security Access form needs to be completed and sent back to your recruit ASAP. Keep this letter in a safe place, it has the information you will need.

The date that is on the form letter is the official date for your Recruit's Training Groups PIR (graduation), Things can always change for an individual Recruit (due to illness, injury, failure to pass a final test etc.)! So, we always recommend that you plan, if possible, to purchase Refundable or Exchangeable plane tickets.

After you have received the form letter, join the group for your recruits PIR. There you can ask questions about PIR, training, hotels etc. Those groups will be posted in the Boot Camp for Mom's group.

Thanks for joining us. We hope you will realize you are not alone, and will soon make new friends, plus feel supported and encouraged! :)

**It is very important that your future Sailor be physically fit prior to shipping to the RTC (these are new standards beginning 1/1/2018) and that he be able to pass an initial run test. See Navy Sets New Physical Fitness Standard to Start Boot Camp. "The initial run standard is evaluated on the 1.5 mile run of the first Physical Fitness Assessment (PFA) at boot camp. The initial run standard for male recruits will be 16 minutes 10 seconds and 18 minutes seven seconds for female recruits."

SDmamabear, you will have from about 10:30 Friday when Liberty is called until some time that evening (usually sometime between 6 pm and 8 pm) and then you can meet her at the airport and spend time with her there. See PIR Day and Liberty during PIR Weekend.

No letter yet.  18 days.  Tomorrow is 19.  No call either, although I didn't really expect one yet.  I have to believe my SR is right with yours mamh1108 and yes we were there at MEPS. :) No news is still good news, but I NEED to know.  Plus I want to mail letters. We also left a message Friday afternoon for the recruiter and then called a friend who has some connections and said he'd make some calls tomorrow. I'll let you know as soon as I find out something. Because she goes to A school away, I'm hesitant to book a flight yet because I'm not sure how much time we get with them on PIR.  Does anyone know the answer to that?

Hi Chronicles16,

Great news! I'm glad you got the form. I have not yet. I was hoping I would yesterday, but hopefully this week? I'm getting really antsy. My pile of letters just keeps getting bigger.

SDmamabear, have you received anything yet? I called the recruiter Friday, but he wasn't in, so I'll call Monday. Hopefully they're from the same division. My SR is going to A school in Great Lakes, so we get to spend the weekend with him, which is great. What about your SR? Were you at MEPS the day they left?

We received our letter today!!!!  So thankful :)  It was postmarked May 8. Hoping you get your letters today as well- mamh1108 and SDmamabear :)

Thanks mamh1108.  I feel better now.  Still nothing today.  Put a call into the recruiter to check for us.  You might want to do the same thing.  They are probably in the same division - wouldn't that be something? :)  I'm going to book at the Navy Lodge too.  Is your SR going to A school after PIR?

SDmamabear,
We're from San Diego too! My SR left April 26th, I got his box May 2nd. We received the same call the night of the 26th. It's heart warming to know everyone else is getting their stuff, but maybe it just takes longer since we're in CA? Just keeping my head held high. I booked my flight for June 22, to Midway because I wanted to go through southwest so just in case for any reason I could switch dates whenever I needed. I booked the navy lodge for that weekend too. I'm assuming June 23rd is a safe bet (: I'll update whenever I receive anything

SDmamabear, yes, by counting 9 Fridays, PIR is most likely 06/23/2017. Integrated divisions sometimes take longer to fill.

My daughter left from CA on April 26, got the scripted phone call around 11 p.m. that she was there and we'd get a letter with her address and she would talk to us in three weeks.  Although we got the box on May 1, no form letter yet and I just checked the mail.  I am stressed out by not knowing for sure the PIR date.  My husband called her recruiter yesterday and he said if nothing by Friday afternoon to call back.  I hope I don't have to spend Mother's Day not knowing. :( This is the longest period of time I have ever gone without talking to her, so it's terribly hard not having the address, ship, division.  I hope that helps you to know mamh1108 that I'm in the same boat as you.  Hopefully we know something tomorrow for sure, but is it pretty safe to say it's June 23?  And was it difficult to obtain a room?  Maybe I should just do that rather than wait?

Hi mamh1108! Look forward to hearing what ship division your SR is in. I am hoping someone else on here has a SR on ship 3 :). We are staying at the Navy Lodge as well :)
