Hello everyone and welcome to the Navy!!! This Group was started for the loved one of DEPPERS leaving in the month of April (although everyone is welcome).......What year you say? Well ......any year!

If you have April ship out issues/questions etc., need specific information, (or have some to share) or just want to talk to someone that is where you are, with a Recruit leaving for and arriving in BC in April, ...then this is the place to be. :-)

Remember, don't "miss 'em while you're with them!" :) Make the most of every precious moment together before they leave. This will be a big transition for both of you! We'll be here for you every step of the way...
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Things to do in the last month before your future sailor leaves (Click on the link.)

Once your recruit has arrived at RTC, the next stop here is to join the group Boot Camp for Moms (and loved ones)  Hangout and ask questions in this group until your form letter arrives.

***New news just out today (9/25/19) from the US Navy Recruit Training Command FaceBook page:
Attention families and friends of RTC: Previously, upon arrival to boot camp, recruits would box up their civilian belongings and ship it to their choice of destination. Our new procedure now has those boxes being stored locally and will be returned to the recruits the day before graduation. The new procedure went into effect this week beginning with Div. 409 in Training Group 52.

Approx two to three weeks after your recruit arrives you will receive the "Form Letter". The form letter will include their Ship# , DIV #, their mailing address, PIR date, and the Security Access Form. The Security Access form needs to be completed and sent back to your recruit ASAP. Keep this letter in a safe place, it has the information you will need.

The date that is on the form letter is the official date for your Recruit's Training Groups PIR (graduation), Things can always change for an individual Recruit (due to illness, injury, failure to pass a final test etc.)! So, we always recommend that you plan, if possible, to purchase Refundable or Exchangeable plane tickets.

After you have received the form letter, join the group for your recruits PIR. There you can ask questions about PIR, training, hotels etc. Those groups will be posted in the Boot Camp for Mom's group.

Thanks for joining us. We hope you will realize you are not alone, and will soon make new friends, plus feel supported and encouraged! :)

**It is very important that your future Sailor be physically fit prior to shipping to the RTC (these are new standards beginning 1/1/2018) and that he be able to pass an initial run test. See Navy Sets New Physical Fitness Standard to Start Boot Camp. "The initial run standard is evaluated on the 1.5 mile run of the first Physical Fitness Assessment (PFA) at boot camp. The initial run standard for male recruits will be 16 minutes 10 seconds and 18 minutes seven seconds for female recruits."

My son leaves for BC on 4/5/11.  He has been so excited for so long.  Well now that it is getting closer he is getting very anxious.  Just needing some words of wisdom here.  I try to be encouraging but I myself am VERY anxious as well.  I was hoping someone out there who has been through this can share what worked for them.  Thank you.

Hi All, my son is leaving for BC on 14th of April... I can't believe its coming up so soon.  He is so excited.  He originally had a date of August, then it changed to May, then they called him again and asked if he wanted to leave in April.. Of course he said YES... I am excited for him.  He is my last one at home.  I will miss him, but I am excited to start living just the hubby, myself and the dogs.  It should be fun.  He is going for Air Sea rescue, so he will go from GL to FL.  But since we are in Georgia, we won't be too far from him.  Anyone else have anyone leaving on this date???

Lujos mom- my son was a depper for 11 months and went in last April 5th. It's hard to believe a year has almost gone by. He's finished A school at GL and is now waiting for his orders which are supposed to be coming any day. However I can still remember like it was yesterday the feeling of anticipation and nervousness that I felt as the time drew closer to his leaving. My son sounds like he is the same age as yours. It is good that he has had some life experience before he enters the Navy. It helps. They can be more ready for the discipline it takes to do well. I wish all the best to your son in the coming weeks as he prepares!

My son is leaving for BC April 7.  He's been in DEP since Nov. 2010 and now it's getting really close to time for him to go!  He is required to call his recruiter every Monday to "check-in". He's been running and exercising daily to prepare himself for BC.  I'm really nervous, but VERY PROUD, about his joining the Navy.  He has been out of high school for 5 years and has finally made a choice as to what to do with his life.

Hi everyone, I am a veteran mom like Diannep, JessicaB and others as well. I thought I would join this group and be around to help answer any questions that may come up now or after your recruit leaves for bootcamp. My daughter started talking about joining early April last year. She went to MEP's April 14th, physical 15th, signed 16th. left for bootcamp May 25th, Was in 900;s preforming division in the choir, PIR July 23rd (Grad and Go on a chartered flight) Got engaged 3 weeks into A-school, got married Sept 3rd (Husband left for bootcamp Sept 7th), graduated A-school late Sept, Went to VA for C-school & graduated C-school mid Dec, She is now an AO and at her first duty station in VA Beach. She moved into her first apartment last weekend, Her husband graduates A-school today and will join her in VA Next week.  PHEW!!! So much can change in just a few short months. We have been through so much and have lots of experiences to share. If anyone has any questions at all please let me know, you can also leave a comment on my page if you like or add me as a friend.

Some advice for now and you may have already heard this but please tell your recruits that the mail is held for the first couple of weeks and not to worry you are writing letters from the moment they leave. Write every day if at all possible. They live for mail call. If you think it will help have them call your cell and leave you a message letting you know they will be okay and then you can listen to it anytime you need to hear their voice. My daughter did this and it really helped me. And tell them to tell all the deppers they see at the recruiter to tell their families about Navy for Moms. You will be surprised at how many families have never even heard of it. :)

Jessica's mom, thank you for the information regarding insurance coverage.  I didn't know that.
