Hello everyone and welcome to the Navy!!! This Group was started for the loved one of DEPPERS leaving in the month of April (although everyone is welcome).......What year you say? Well ......any year!

If you have April ship out issues/questions etc., need specific information, (or have some to share) or just want to talk to someone that is where you are, with a Recruit leaving for and arriving in BC in April, ...then this is the place to be. :-)

Remember, don't "miss 'em while you're with them!" :) Make the most of every precious moment together before they leave. This will be a big transition for both of you! We'll be here for you every step of the way...
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Things to do in the last month before your future sailor leaves (Click on the link.)

Once your recruit has arrived at RTC, the next stop here is to join the group Boot Camp for Moms (and loved ones)  Hangout and ask questions in this group until your form letter arrives.

***New news just out today (9/25/19) from the US Navy Recruit Training Command FaceBook page:
Attention families and friends of RTC: Previously, upon arrival to boot camp, recruits would box up their civilian belongings and ship it to their choice of destination. Our new procedure now has those boxes being stored locally and will be returned to the recruits the day before graduation. The new procedure went into effect this week beginning with Div. 409 in Training Group 52.

Approx two to three weeks after your recruit arrives you will receive the "Form Letter". The form letter will include their Ship# , DIV #, their mailing address, PIR date, and the Security Access Form. The Security Access form needs to be completed and sent back to your recruit ASAP. Keep this letter in a safe place, it has the information you will need.

The date that is on the form letter is the official date for your Recruit's Training Groups PIR (graduation), Things can always change for an individual Recruit (due to illness, injury, failure to pass a final test etc.)! So, we always recommend that you plan, if possible, to purchase Refundable or Exchangeable plane tickets.

After you have received the form letter, join the group for your recruits PIR. There you can ask questions about PIR, training, hotels etc. Those groups will be posted in the Boot Camp for Mom's group.

Thanks for joining us. We hope you will realize you are not alone, and will soon make new friends, plus feel supported and encouraged! :)

**It is very important that your future Sailor be physically fit prior to shipping to the RTC (these are new standards beginning 1/1/2018) and that he be able to pass an initial run test. See Navy Sets New Physical Fitness Standard to Start Boot Camp. "The initial run standard is evaluated on the 1.5 mile run of the first Physical Fitness Assessment (PFA) at boot camp. The initial run standard for male recruits will be 16 minutes 10 seconds and 18 minutes seven seconds for female recruits."

I saw your photos- your Brandon is a good looking guy! Who are the other kids in the photo?

Brandon's mom...I think you are welcome here ANY TIME! And since much of what you'll go through will be familiar to both "months" - you can be both places! It may be that you'll go through things a little sooner than some of the April people - so you can be a voice of reassurance and wisdom!

AND....I'm bias! I think the ladies who have share this site with me while our sailors were going through it this last April were amazing! We still keep in touch! :o) IN FACT the last entry prior to yours is now a dear friend of mine (because of Navy Moms site) and we are doing a GIRLS WEEKEND this coming weekend! And we are meeting another mom who is flying here from Florida! You can make some wonderful connections!

If you have any concerns as you go through these months ahead - please don't hesitate to ask. We've been through it!

Be blessed,
~marilyn~

Gina, do only what you are comfortable with. Read the stuff you want but if it seems like it's causing you to become anxious put it away. Information is good.
I started a notebook that I would add to from time to time. But I never referred back to it because when I was finally 'there' I could ask the questions from the moms at that time. Does that make sense? If you would like to, 'friend' me, and if you ever need to talk or ask a quest. [ or cry!] I'll be right there for
you. You may just want to forget about April till the new year rolls around- I did that! Call me an ostrich! But Gina I know all the many thoughts that you will probably experience in the next several months- as do all the ladies on here.
We moms stick together!

Lori,
You are so right. I do need to just put this away for a while. I am always just so "drawn" to the site and getting as much information as I can. Thank you so much for your advice as it is very comforting to know I am not alone in my feelings.
Gina :)

Oh ginamarie I'm so sorry, I know what you are going through and I can totally understand. I was there too. My son went to BC last April. The day after Easter.
He was a depper for 11 months. I put it out of my mind for months and when he told me about the N4M site I checked it out but I wasn't ready for it then. I 'joined' just before he left. I did write down a lot of information to put away for later. But if reading things on here upsets you file this away for awhile. You are not 'dramatic' it's a lot to take in. Please give yourself time to absorb just the fact he's joined the Navy. I completely understand what you are feeling.

Don't try to jump to things like the 'box' just yet. You don't have to deal with that yet. One thing at a time or it does become over whelming.
If there are questions you have there are plenty of us moms who have 'been there, done that' who are more than willing to help you. I'm so glad you have come on here... these ladies are STILL my life line.
All the best to you.
Lori

I am very new to these boards and this is my first post. My son, Tyler, will be leaving 6 April 2011(getting used to this date thing). Then he will also go to Nuke school in Goose Creek, SC. He is very excited and I am also excited for him. Just not sure why when I read these boards I want to cry after about 20 mins. I can only take in a little bit at a time. When I read about the "box" coming home I just couldn't believe the Navy could do that to us moms but I am getting used to that idea. I kind of wish he was going sooner so I would feel better.(Not sure if I will though) Does anyone have any words of wisdom for my aching heart? I don't want to sound dramatic but I'm hoping someone out there will understand.

AirRescueMom- I understand how you feel. I find myself alone most of the time too. I wish we were all closer so that we can be there in person for each other. I have started a scrap book for my son so that is keeping me busy... I have never been real crafty so it is going to be a challenge for me... We are all here for you when you need us...
