Hello everyone and welcome to the Navy!!! This Group was started for the loved one of DEPPERS leaving in the month of April (although everyone is welcome).......What year you say? Well ......any year!
If you have April ship out issues/questions etc., need specific information, (or have some to share) or just want to talk to someone that is where you are, with a Recruit leaving for and arriving in BC in April, ...then this is the place to be. :-)
Remember, don't "miss 'em while you're with them!" :) Make the most of every precious moment together before they leave. This will be a big transition for both of you! We'll be here for you every step of the way...
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Things to do in the last month before your future sailor leaves (Click on the link.)
Once your recruit has arrived at RTC, the next stop here is to join the group Boot Camp for Moms (and loved ones) Hangout and ask questions in this group until your form letter arrives.
Approx two to three weeks after your recruit arrives you will receive the "Form Letter". The form letter will include their Ship# , DIV #, their mailing address, PIR date, and the Security Access Form. The Security Access form needs to be completed and sent back to your recruit ASAP. Keep this letter in a safe place, it has the information you will need.
The date that is on the form letter is the official date for your Recruit's Training Groups PIR (graduation), Things can always change for an individual Recruit (due to illness, injury, failure to pass a final test etc.)! So, we always recommend that you plan, if possible, to purchase Refundable or Exchangeable plane tickets.
After you have received the form letter, join the group for your recruits PIR. There you can ask questions about PIR, training, hotels etc. Those groups will be posted in the Boot Camp for Mom's group.
Thanks for joining us. We hope you will realize you are not alone, and will soon make new friends, plus feel supported and encouraged! :)
**It is very important that your future Sailor be physically fit prior to shipping to the RTC (these are new standards beginning 1/1/2018) and that he be able to pass an initial run test. See Navy Sets New Physical Fitness Standard to Start Boot Camp. "The initial run standard is evaluated on the 1.5 mile run of the first Physical Fitness Assessment (PFA) at boot camp. The initial run standard for male recruits will be 16 minutes 10 seconds and 18 minutes seven seconds for female recruits."

lemonelephant : No letter again today (insert sad face)
My sons recruiter told me ship 13 division 213 PIR 6/19/15. He shipped out on 4/16.
Carpmart, I too searched all his pockets for a hidden note; there wasn't one. I also struggle with knowing that he will probably never live under my roof again. The sudden empty nest has been harder than I currently care to admit.
Thank goodness for this site! I'm not a natural "sharer" so being able to read posts, that I could have wrote, validates the tears that randomly decided to trickle down my cheeks.

WHen you mentioned she was your sushi partner, you brought tears to my eyes. My daughter was my best buddy. she left 4/8 and we always had sushi and talked. she is 19 years old and i miss her sooo much. im excited also for her journey, i knew that she has to grow up. i just wish we could talk. she was my best friend. we called eachother BFFLZ
She address her first letter to me as
Dear BFFLZ ( Best Friends For Lifezzzzz) i know silly
Hi all! My SR left last Tues 4/21, and I've been so proud of myself, I've held myself together pretty well this past week, only shed a couple of tears during his swearing in, got his box and it didn't really stir any emotion in me except a slight disappointment there wasn't any hidden notes. But last night it finally hit my 5 year old that her big brother wasn't there, and that finally triggered something in me, Holy cow do I miss my boy! When he was away at college it wasn't such a big deal because he came home for visits quite often and he was accessible by phone, text and Facebook. But this is so much different. I know he's only un accessible for these 8 weeks during BC, but the reality is. He probably wont be living under my roof ever again. he'll be 25/26 years old when his enlistment is over, and even if he doesn't re-enlist he probably wont be living at home. The reality that he's a grown man, making important decisions on his own and living his life independtly without his family. I all of a sudden the house seemed so quiet and lonely without him. Ok, im being mellow dramatic now, but you ladies are probably the only ones that understand how im feeling. Thanks for listening.
I got "the box" yesterday! I am looking forward to seeing legible handwriting on the form letter... it's the little things that keep me going.
