Hello everyone and welcome to the Navy!!! This Group was started for the loved one of DEPPERS leaving in the month of April (although everyone is welcome).......What year you say? Well ......any year!
If you have April ship out issues/questions etc., need specific information, (or have some to share) or just want to talk to someone that is where you are, with a Recruit leaving for and arriving in BC in April, ...then this is the place to be. :-)
Remember, don't "miss 'em while you're with them!" :) Make the most of every precious moment together before they leave. This will be a big transition for both of you! We'll be here for you every step of the way...
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Things to do in the last month before your future sailor leaves (Click on the link.)
Once your recruit has arrived at RTC, the next stop here is to join the group Boot Camp for Moms (and loved ones) Hangout and ask questions in this group until your form letter arrives.
Approx two to three weeks after your recruit arrives you will receive the "Form Letter". The form letter will include their Ship# , DIV #, their mailing address, PIR date, and the Security Access Form. The Security Access form needs to be completed and sent back to your recruit ASAP. Keep this letter in a safe place, it has the information you will need.
The date that is on the form letter is the official date for your Recruit's Training Groups PIR (graduation), Things can always change for an individual Recruit (due to illness, injury, failure to pass a final test etc.)! So, we always recommend that you plan, if possible, to purchase Refundable or Exchangeable plane tickets.
After you have received the form letter, join the group for your recruits PIR. There you can ask questions about PIR, training, hotels etc. Those groups will be posted in the Boot Camp for Mom's group.
Thanks for joining us. We hope you will realize you are not alone, and will soon make new friends, plus feel supported and encouraged! :)
**It is very important that your future Sailor be physically fit prior to shipping to the RTC (these are new standards beginning 1/1/2018) and that he be able to pass an initial run test. See Navy Sets New Physical Fitness Standard to Start Boot Camp. "The initial run standard is evaluated on the 1.5 mile run of the first Physical Fitness Assessment (PFA) at boot camp. The initial run standard for male recruits will be 16 minutes 10 seconds and 18 minutes seven seconds for female recruits."

Truly Blessed, my son was sworn in in November. He was not scheduled to leave until May, but here we go!
TrulyBlessed, I would not get to worried yet. My son also left on a Monday, but he had to wait for his division to fill, so it was Nine Fridays for his PIR. Just be patient and wait for the form letter to see when it is, If you have to miss it, can you have a family member go and video it for you? It will be hard to miss.
NavyMomFHAL, Since your recruit will still have his phone, there, will be someone there that will be able to take his picture for you.
Good Luck to both of you and your new Recruits.
Ladies welcome to navy moms, I cannot help with either situation, I know both are important, one can be video taped at MEPS, but to miss PIR, that's a once in a lifetime celebration. Hope you can figure things out.
Hello! My recruit is also leaving for basic on April 16! He was sworn in in October. I will go to MEPS, but when I count the 8 Fridays for the PIR, my husband and I will be in Spain and will miss it.
Hi All-
My recruit will be leaving for boot camp on April 16! He has been in DEP since November and scheduled to leave in mid-May. We have been excited, but now the tears have started to flow! I will not be able to go to MEPS with him as it is 3 hours away, and in the opposite direction as the doctor appointment that my other child has had scheduled for 3 months. :( Feeling so bad about that. Does anyone else have a recruit heading on the same day or later in the week?
Chrissy I know what you mean, it isnt easy. I left you some info on your my page.
Our oldest arrived last night, already missing her and hating not knowing what shes doing. We knew the "I'm here call" would be short but holy cow, it was a lot harder than I thought it would be.
Mern I think you did well, and I am glad that you spoke to him about the communication part, I was Not ready at all when my son went in didnt know actually anything.
Thanks Phoenixmom I have been on Navy for Moms for a while and it has helped me know what to expect. My son and I talked a lot about what to expect and hopefully that has helped him. I know being tired and nervous is still there but he's aware of what it takes. What we did was tell him how proud we are. He knows the communication wont be there so we have tried to say all those things before, and will continue in letters.
Good Morning Mern, welcome to Navy Moms glad to have you along and thank you for allowing us to be part of this Journey with you and You New SR. Thank You for sharing, Looks like your Son seems to know what to expect and seems very focused at what needs to be done. That is a good sign I must say. I wouldnt worry to much at this point his first hours of getting there he will be processed and sized next comes the physical with eyes, teeth and so on. if you would like to read on following what happens or following the weeks let me know and I can get you some sites. It brought comfort to me to know what he was doing week to week, I find following P-Days was a little difficult, for me anyways. Welcome again and if you have any questions or concerns please post or get with me but anyone can help. we have a Great Group of Ladies that will share and give direction. Have a Great Day!
