Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

In light of observed changes and impact of the Coronavirus Delta Variant and out of an abundance of caution for our recruits, Sailors, staff, and guests, Recruit Training Command is restricting Pass-in-Review (recruit graduation) to ONLY fully immunized guests (14-days post final COVID vaccination dose).

Hello everyone and welcome to the Navy!!! This Group was started for the loved one of DEPPERS leaving in the month of April (although everyone is welcome).......What year you say? Well ......any year!
If you have April ship out issues/questions etc., need specific information, (or have some to share) or just want to talk to someone that is where you are, with a Recruit leaving for and arriving in BC in April, ...then this is the place to be. :-)
Remember, don't "miss 'em while you're with them!" :) Make the most of every precious moment together before they leave. This will be a big transition for both of you! We'll be here for you every step of the way...

Things to do in the last month before your future sailor leaves (Click on the link.)
Once your recruit has arrived at RTC, the next stop here is to join the group Boot Camp for Moms (and loved ones) Hangout and ask questions in this group until your form letter arrives.
***New news just out today (9/25/19) from the US Navy Recruit Training Command FaceBook page:
Attention families and friends of RTC: Previously, upon arrival to boot camp, recruits would box up their civilian belongings and ship it to their choice of destination. Our new procedure now has those boxes being stored locally and will be returned to the recruits the day before graduation. The new procedure went into effect this week beginning with Div. 409 in Training Group 52.
Approx two to three weeks after your recruit arrives you will receive the "Form Letter". The form letter will include their Ship# , DIV #, their mailing address, PIR date, and the Security Access Form. The Security Access form needs to be completed and sent back to your recruit ASAP. Keep this letter in a safe place, it has the information you will need.
The date that is on the form letter is the official date for your Recruit's Training Groups PIR (graduation), Things can always change for an individual Recruit (due to illness, injury, failure to pass a final test etc.)! So, we always recommend that you plan, if possible, to purchase Refundable or Exchangeable plane tickets.
After you have received the form letter, join the group for your recruits PIR. There you can ask questions about PIR, training, hotels etc.Those groups will be posted in the Boot Camp for Mom's group.

**It is very important that your future Sailor be physically fit prior to shipping to the RTC (these are new standards beginning 1/1/2018) and that he be able to pass an initial run test. See Navy Sets New Physical Fitness Standard to Start Boot Camp. "The initial run standard is evaluated on the 1.5 mile run of the first Physical Fitness Assessment (PFA) at boot camp. The initial run standard for male recruits will be 16 minutes 10 seconds and 18 minutes seven seconds for female recruits."

Carpmart, He is going to Great Lakes. His A School will also be at GL. Sorry, I don't have any advice about little sister. My SR has a little sister. Although, she is 16 and "says" that she can't wait for her brother to leave. But, I don't really believe her. lol

Definitely proudmomof_brady!! I assume your son will be in Great Lakes? I have a 5 year old daughter and she doesn't quite understand that her 20 year old brother is leaving for such a long time. Does anyone have any advice on how to prep her for this huge transition in our families dynamics ?

Carpmart, we will have to keep in touch as our babies take their journey. And my daughter has already made plans to take her brothers room as soon as he leaves. I told her she has to at least wait until after he comes home from A School. lol

Yes my son Tommy leaves on the 21st as well. I don't think it's really hit me yet that that he's leaving and wont be back for I don't know how long. However my husband is already planning on how to convert our sons bedroom!

I'm not at sad as I thought I would be. Although, it is getting closer and more real to me. He is so excited that it is hard for me to be sad. I'm sure when I drop him off at the recruiters office, it will truly hit me. And when he walks away from me to get on that plane, I may need medication. lol

Very well said MES mom. I feel the exact same way, although I think it is my coping mechanism kicking in. My son also leaves on the 15th. We have not traveled much during his life and just in the first few weeks he will have seen more of the country than I have. We are excited!!! Not sad, not yet anyway. LOL!!

I haven't had a chance to be on here much as I have been in the middle of a huge move at work. But just wanted to say that my son has a ship date of April 21st. I am so excited for him, but as the date gets closer, It gets more real to me. Anyone else's babies leaving on the 21st?

Welcome Chetta! I am trying not to cry but each day it gets closer and getting more nerve racking. He has l2 days left at home. Reading other moms comments have helped. Seeing the pictures on FB have been wonderful. Hoping when he leaves I will get glimpse from the pictures. I am proud and know he will do great! We love our boys so much and have to remember they will great men!
