Right there with you!  Mine goes 8/9/11.  He's SO excited. I'm not ready, but doubt I ever will be so I will just deal with it and put on my brave smile for him.  Hugs right back.  Enjoyed your blog, we sound similar but I only have 2 wonderful kids that amaze me everyday, and the one that is leaving is my 'baby'.  :-)

Our guys will be in boot camp together!

And we will be here holding each other's hands!!!

~hugs~ ♥

@seadreamstudio/sonandsea.....are you going to MEPS with your son on the 8th?

I booked a room so that we can spend Sunday night with our daughter and see her swear in Monday morning.  I was wondering if we will meet!

YES!! YAY! See you there!!

I'll be the one crying into a bucket!

JUST KIDDING!!

(sort of..)

;)

When they leave on 8/8 does that mean they go to MEPS on 8/8 and leave MEPS on 8/9 or do they report to MEPS 8/7 and leave there on 8/9?

Wow, I think I confused myself!

She'll report to MEPS on the 7th and fly out on the 8th. My recruiter is making me meet him at the recruiting office and he is driving me to the MEPS hotel (which, might I add, is only 5 minutes from my house, but an hour from the recruiting office. If anyone figures out the logic there, let me know!) You can follow her to the hotel. She'll have to check in and take her stuff to her room, which shouldn't take too long. It's been about 30 minutes to check in for me the two times I've gone to MEPS. After she's all checked in she can leave the hotel with you if you want to go to dinner or anything. There is a curfew to be back at the hotel, but I'm not sure what it is.

WHAT!!??? are you saying if my son's ship out date is the 8th, he has to report to MEPS on the 7th???? That is a Sunday! I hope this is not true! We have his party scheduled for the 6th and wanted a quiet night for his last night which we thought was the 7th! YIKES! I will have my son call hiis recruiter in the morning!!!

EEEEKKKK!!!

Dale,

It's crazy! My ship date is the 17th. But I have to be at the recruiter's office on the 16th. We have to stay at the MEPs hotel the night before we actually ship out. I guess they don't want us going out partying and doing something stupid. I tried to convice my recruiter to make and exception, but had no luck. The sad thing is that I live closer to MEPs than the hotel is... Have your son double check, but I'm afraid he's going to hear the same thing. I know I have to do a final "24 hour" briefing with our Chief, just like the 90 day, 30 day, and soon to be 7 day meetings I've already had.

We just found out the same thing!  My son's ship date is August 9, but we found out yesterday that he is actually leaving at 11:00 am on August 8.  They will take him to the MEPS hotel and he will leave from there on Aug 9.

We had to scramble...we had some family flying from Phoenix on Aug 8 to say good-bye to him.  Luckily, they were able to change plans and will be here on the 6th.

Nukette,

You ship out the same day as my son.  He has to report to Farmington  to the recruter on the 16th and then leaves St. Louis on the 17th.  You guys could be in the same group, he is going in as a corpsman though not a nuke

Hi Nukette...my son ships out the 17th also. Where are you leaving from? Best of luck...

I'll be headed out from Tampa. I checked the timezones last week and was very happy to see that I'll be getting to sleep in about an hour and a half later at RTC. 6:00 there is 7:00 here, and I normally get up at 5:30 for work!

I keep telling my husband that RTC is going to be like a vacation for me. 8 hours of designated "lights out" time (compared to my usual 6ish), 3 square meals a day that I don't have to cook or clean up after (instead of my normal gas station breakfast, and take out lunch, then an hour of dishes after dinner), and designated time for exercise (which has always been the thing to get cut from my busy schedule). It's one of the few places where my obsessive "neatness" will be appreciated (and not made fun of). And on top of all that I'm going to get paid for being there.
