Hello everyone and welcome to the Navy!!! This Group was started for the loved one of DEPPERS leaving in the month of December (although everyone is welcome).......What year you say? Well ......any year!

If you have December ship out issues/questions etc., need specific information, (or have some to share) or just want to talk to someone that is where you are, with a Recruit leaving for and arriving in BC in December, ...then this is the place to be. :-)

Remember, don't "miss 'em while you're with them!" :) Make the most of every precious moment together before they leave. This will be a big transition for both of you! We'll be here for you every step of the way...
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Things to do in the last month before your future sailor leaves (Click on the link.)

Once your recruit has arrived at RTC, the next stop here is to join the group Boot Camp for Moms (and loved ones)  Hangout and ask questions in this group until your form letter arrives.

***New news just out today (9/25/19) from the US Navy Recruit Training Command FaceBook page:
Attention families and friends of RTC: Previously, upon arrival to boot camp, recruits would box up their civilian belongings and ship it to their choice of destination. Our new procedure now has those boxes being stored locally and will be returned to the recruits the day before graduation. The new procedure went into effect this week beginning with Div. 409 in Training Group 52.

Approx two to three weeks after your recruit arrives you will receive the "Form Letter". The form letter will include their Ship# , DIV #, their mailing address, PIR date, and the Security Access Form. The Security Access form needs to be completed and sent back to your recruit ASAP. Keep this letter in a safe place, it has the information you will need.

The date that is on the form letter is the official date for your Recruit's Training Groups PIR (graduation), Things can always change for an individual Recruit (due to illness, injury, failure to pass a final test etc.)! So, we always recommend that you plan, if possible, to purchase Refundable or Exchangeable plane tickets.

After you have received the form letter, join the group for your recruits PIR. There you can ask questions about PIR, training, hotels etc. Those groups will be posted in the Boot Camp for Mom's group.

Thanks for joining us. We hope you will realize you are not alone, and will soon make new friends, plus feel supported and encouraged! :)

**It is very important that your future Sailor be physically fit prior to shipping to the RTC (these are new standards beginning 1/1/2018) and that he be able to pass an initial run test. See Navy Sets New Physical Fitness Standard to Start Boot Camp. "The initial run standard is evaluated on the 1.5 mile run of the first Physical Fitness Assessment (PFA) at boot camp. The initial run standard for male recruits will be 16 minutes 10 seconds and 18 minutes seven seconds for female recruits."

Im with you mannysmom. Mine left central ny on the 3rd and I got about 15 secs at 8:30 pm of him telling me about the box and laughed a little about sending along the underwear:) he's not much of a talker OR writer so I feel I will be in the dark a lot. I told him before he left I would make it easy for him and write questions and fill in the blanks and he can just mail it back to me. Lol. I've got two done already as I'm learning what he's going through. Helps lessen the tears too :)

If your future Sailor has yet to ship, be sure to check out the discussion, Things to Do in the Last Month before Your Future Sailor Leaves for....

If you have not yet joined Boot Camp Moms (and loved ones), now is a good time to do so and to begin checking out the Pages (found under the pictures of the Members) starting with OPSEC and PERSEC (Making Changes to Your Profile) (some of you have changes that you need to make if your Username and/or URL contains your last name and/or if your profile picture includes your SR) and Arrival and What Happens at the RTC.

I've been an emotional wreck also, this by far has been the hardest thing that I have ever had to deal with as a parent. I feel like a peace of me is missing. Letting go of him is so hard. Glad I found this group, I know there are mom's with the same emotions that I'm having. Hope with some time it will get easier.

My son arrived at GL on 12/5. I got my 20 second scripted call is all so far. Reading these posts sure make it somewhat comforting and confirms that I am not alone with my emotions. I have been an emotional wreck!! I cannot even face or talk to family or friends without crying. My husband is disabled and I am the caregiver, work full time and am responsible for all of the household duties. My SR has been my rock. I miss him terribly. I sure hope this will get easier once I get to communicate with him. He is my baby and just turned 18 the end of Sept. I also feel like I am just lost and there should have been some kind of class to prepare us for all of this. Still waiting for "the box" and the letter with his address. Then when I receive his PIR date, I can start planning our trip. I am optimistic that he is doing great. He is a strong, smart and level headed.

My daughter left MEPS for Great Lakes on Dec 4th, I haven't heard from her yet but the recruiter told me she is on Ship 9, Division 076 so if anyone else has a son/daughter on that ship and division let me know.

Comment by A's_momma_Erin on December 8, 2013 at 6:44pm

Maryd4lovew3, I feel the same about the contact.  I NEVER expected a phone call before the form letter.  I think this may be because his ship and division was comprised of SR's that have been there for so long so the other SR's "earned" the call and he was lucky enough to be a part of that.

Comment by Christie_Okie on December 8, 2013 at 6:34pm

My son arrived on the 4th. I would love to hear from him but I am not expecting it. I feel many other moms deserve a call before I do.
