While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

Hello everyone and welcome to the Navy!!! This Group was started for the loved one of DEPPERS leaving in the month of December (although everyone is welcome).......What year you say? Well ......any year!

If you have December ship out issues/questions etc., need specific information, (or have some to share) or just want to talk to someone that is where you are, with a Recruit leaving for and arriving in BC in December, ...then this is the place to be. :-)

Remember, don't "miss 'em while you're with them!" :) Make the most of every precious moment together before they leave. This will be a big transition for both of you! We'll be here for you every step of the way...

Things to do in the last month before your future sailor leaves (Click on the link.)

Once your recruit has arrived at RTC, the next stop here is to join the group Boot Camp for Moms (and loved ones) Hangout and ask questions in this group until your form letter arrives.

***New news just out today (9/25/19) from the US Navy Recruit Training Command FaceBook page:

Attention families and friends of RTC: Previously, upon arrival to boot camp, recruits would box up their civilian belongings and ship it to their choice of destination. Our new procedure now has those boxes being stored locally and will be returned to the recruits the day before graduation. The new procedure went into effect this week beginning with Div. 409 in Training Group 52.

Approx two to three weeks after your recruit arrives you will receive the "Form Letter". The form letter will include their Ship# , DIV #, their mailing address, PIR date, and the Security Access Form. The Security Access form needs to be completed and sent back to your recruit ASAP. Keep this letter in a safe place, it has the information you will need.

The date that is on the form letter is the official date for your Recruit's Training Groups PIR (graduation), Things can always change for an individual Recruit (due to illness, injury, failure to pass a final test etc.)! So, we always recommend that you plan, if possible, to purchase Refundable or Exchangeable plane tickets.

After you have received the form letter, join the group for your recruits PIR. There you can ask questions about PIR, training, hotels etc.Those groups will be posted in the Boot Camp for Mom's group.

**It is very important that your future Sailor be physically fit prior to shipping to the RTC (these are new standards beginning 1/1/2018) and that he be able to pass an initial run test. See Navy Sets New Physical Fitness Standard to Start Boot Camp. "The initial run standard is evaluated on the 1.5 mile run of the first Physical Fitness Assessment (PFA) at boot camp. The initial run standard for male recruits will be 16 minutes 10 seconds and 18 minutes seven seconds for female recruits."

I'm not sure how they decide who can call and when, but those in P-hold for that long (in my opinion) should have been able to at least make a short call to explain the delay. Anyway, I truly feel for the loved ones who are still waiting! When did your SR arrive at GL?

I just pray my husband and I are together when he calls. I do not want either of us miss out on getting to talk to him. I can not believe some of the SR have been there 3 weeks and they've been wasting time and all those families clueless as to what has been going on. It is sad they way they do some of the things.

my son arrived at BC late Thursday. You caught my attention when you said your son was in a chatty group. It makes me wonder if my son is in that group. I constantly think about him and wonder how he is doing. Thanks for sharing your great news about the phone call.

Comment by A's_momma_Erin on December 8, 2013 at 5:09pm: OMG! Just got a call! I didn't expect one for 2 more weeks. Asked a bunch of questions, that will hopefully answer some questions for the moms still waiting. Today is 1-2 for his ship and division. He is with groups ABC, which means there are recruits that have been there 3 weeks, 2 weeks and 1 week. He is in the 1 week group since he arrived at GL late on 12-2. He is Ship 02 Div 911 with PIR on January 24th. They get from 7-1 every Sunday for time to write, call (if they earn it), study, etc… He MAY get to call next week. He said the calls could come any time Friday through Sunday, so keep the phones handy. There is still more time for calls to come today! They DO get the free time on Christmas and New Years as well. He also gave me his mailing address and I haven't gotten the form letter yet. He said he is in a VERY chatty group and they keep getting in trouble for that. He asked for 2 things (as of now) for his "graduation" gifts. A long hot shower, and his boxer briefs. The tighty whities suck! I am overwhelmed with info, so I need to marinate on the phone call and more may come back to me. Praying for all you loved ones who know nothing officially! Good news, the Ships and Divisions are being filled so the kiddos who have been there a while are getting assigned! Hang in there!!

We were at Church today and suddenly I realized it would be a very long time before we will be at Church together. He was baptized in that Church and we have gone together as a family practically every Sunday since! I had such a hard time holding the tears back. One more full day at home! Time is going so fast!

He was very excited when he left but he was also very upset at the same time because he knows how much me and his dad are gonna miss him. I know we will all get through this but it is very hard right now.
