Hello everyone and welcome to the Navy!!! This Group was started for the loved one of DEPPERS leaving in the month of December (although everyone is welcome).......What year you say? Well ......any year!

If you have December ship out issues/questions etc., need specific information, (or have some to share) or just want to talk to someone that is where you are, with a Recruit leaving for and arriving in BC in December, ...then this is the place to be. :-)

Remember, don't "miss 'em while you're with them!" :) Make the most of every precious moment together before they leave. This will be a big transition for both of you! We'll be here for you every step of the way...
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Things to do in the last month before your future sailor leaves (Click on the link.)

Once your recruit has arrived at RTC, the next stop here is to join the group Boot Camp for Moms (and loved ones)  Hangout and ask questions in this group until your form letter arrives.

***New news just out today (9/25/19) from the US Navy Recruit Training Command FaceBook page:
Attention families and friends of RTC: Previously, upon arrival to boot camp, recruits would box up their civilian belongings and ship it to their choice of destination. Our new procedure now has those boxes being stored locally and will be returned to the recruits the day before graduation. The new procedure went into effect this week beginning with Div. 409 in Training Group 52.

Approx two to three weeks after your recruit arrives you will receive the "Form Letter". The form letter will include their Ship# , DIV #, their mailing address, PIR date, and the Security Access Form. The Security Access form needs to be completed and sent back to your recruit ASAP. Keep this letter in a safe place, it has the information you will need.

The date that is on the form letter is the official date for your Recruit's Training Groups PIR (graduation), Things can always change for an individual Recruit (due to illness, injury, failure to pass a final test etc.)! So, we always recommend that you plan, if possible, to purchase Refundable or Exchangeable plane tickets.

After you have received the form letter, join the group for your recruits PIR. There you can ask questions about PIR, training, hotels etc. Those groups will be posted in the Boot Camp for Mom's group.

Thanks for joining us. We hope you will realize you are not alone, and will soon make new friends, plus feel supported and encouraged! :)

**It is very important that your future Sailor be physically fit prior to shipping to the RTC (these are new standards beginning 1/1/2018) and that he be able to pass an initial run test. See Navy Sets New Physical Fitness Standard to Start Boot Camp. "The initial run standard is evaluated on the 1.5 mile run of the first Physical Fitness Assessment (PFA) at boot camp. The initial run standard for male recruits will be 16 minutes 10 seconds and 18 minutes seven seconds for female recruits."

I had my sons phone "military suspended" but did think to keep it on so that if it rang I would know it was Him :) I do the same as you Erin. I have a 20y/o autistic student this year. I've worked with children ever since getting out of the army in '96. One would think I could make it through this easily knowing a lot about what he's going through and the mental toughness it takes but I'm a sap these days and do worry about him. Reading and connecting with you all here is a blessing beyond words. God bless our sons and daughters as they find their way through Bc.

Welcome mikesmom, my son arrived at Great Lakes last Wednesday, December 4th. I'm still trying to come to reality. I keep trying to text and call him. He is our only child and our house sure is quiet without him here. Our 2 cats are even looking around for him and crying more than usually. It helps to have everyone on here to talk to and read their comments.

My son leaves tomorrow for the hotel then off to Great lakes on Tuesday. We celebrated Christmas yesterday. It is going to be awfully strange not having him around.

Sorry. I didn't respond sooner. My son reported to GL on Monday Dec 2. I received the box on Friday (it would have been here Thursday but no one was home to sign for it). And then I received the letter yesterday. He had said three week during the call so I wasn't expecting it yet. He is ship 13 Div 069. I've seen a few that said their SR that left in November have the same ship/div. I presume they wait to fill a division before letting the SR inform family. Also we live very close to GL so receiving mail and such is a little quicker I expect.

My cell phone has not been away from me since he left. I would just freak out it I missed a call. This has all been so hard on me and my hubby with him being our only child. I know it will be better but right now it is just so darn hard.

Alexander's_momma_Erin, good idea.

I wish I would have thought to share this idea earlier. I am scared to miss my sons phone calls. I work in a public school as a special education aide and am not supposed to take personal calls during the day. Forwarding my home calls to my cell isn't a good option since I might get numerous calls from numbers I don't recognize and can't answer them. Before my son left we told him to call HIS cell. All his friends know he is gone (and they texted anyway) so they wouldn't call. I should be able to get my principal to approve my taking calls from his phone since this is a "special" situation. Maybe this will work for some of you too!

jamieRN, the form letter will come in an envelope from the RTC--the average time to receive the form letter is 10 days after arrival, but it can take 2 weeks or more at times. FedEx does not typically deliver "the box" on weekends. "The box" has taken up to 2 weeks to arrive at times, but it generally comes within 3 or 4 business days after arrival. See Arrival and What Happens at the RTC within Boot Camp Moms (and loved ones).
