Hello everyone and welcome to the Navy!!! This Group was started for the loved one of DEPPERS leaving in the month of December (although everyone is welcome).......What year you say? Well ......any year!

If you have December ship out issues/questions etc., need specific information, (or have some to share) or just want to talk to someone that is where you are, with a Recruit leaving for and arriving in BC in December, ...then this is the place to be. :-)

Remember, don't "miss 'em while you're with them!" :) Make the most of every precious moment together before they leave. This will be a big transition for both of you! We'll be here for you every step of the way...
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Things to do in the last month before your future sailor leaves (Click on the link.)

Once your recruit has arrived at RTC, the next stop here is to join the group Boot Camp for Moms (and loved ones)  Hangout and ask questions in this group until your form letter arrives.

***New news just out today (9/25/19) from the US Navy Recruit Training Command FaceBook page:
Attention families and friends of RTC: Previously, upon arrival to boot camp, recruits would box up their civilian belongings and ship it to their choice of destination. Our new procedure now has those boxes being stored locally and will be returned to the recruits the day before graduation. The new procedure went into effect this week beginning with Div. 409 in Training Group 52.

Approx two to three weeks after your recruit arrives you will receive the "Form Letter". The form letter will include their Ship# , DIV #, their mailing address, PIR date, and the Security Access Form. The Security Access form needs to be completed and sent back to your recruit ASAP. Keep this letter in a safe place, it has the information you will need.

The date that is on the form letter is the official date for your Recruit's Training Groups PIR (graduation), Things can always change for an individual Recruit (due to illness, injury, failure to pass a final test etc.)! So, we always recommend that you plan, if possible, to purchase Refundable or Exchangeable plane tickets.

After you have received the form letter, join the group for your recruits PIR. There you can ask questions about PIR, training, hotels etc. Those groups will be posted in the Boot Camp for Mom's group.

Thanks for joining us. We hope you will realize you are not alone, and will soon make new friends, plus feel supported and encouraged! :)

**It is very important that your future Sailor be physically fit prior to shipping to the RTC (these are new standards beginning 1/1/2018) and that he be able to pass an initial run test. See Navy Sets New Physical Fitness Standard to Start Boot Camp. "The initial run standard is evaluated on the 1.5 mile run of the first Physical Fitness Assessment (PFA) at boot camp. The initial run standard for male recruits will be 16 minutes 10 seconds and 18 minutes seven seconds for female recruits."

Question..... Does the Navy pay anything for us to attend the BC graduation? Do they have a reception afterwards? Thank you

jamieRN, If he has his Navy Federal card, yes, he should take it with him, You only need a POA if you will be taking care of financial matters for him.

question:    My son leaves on the third ( thirteen days- but whos counting - waaaa)  .... I know they take their wallet with calling cards , thirty dollars, drivers license . Do they also take their little Navy Federal cards with them also . Is that safe to take or should he just leave them with me until after PIR / A school? Did anyone else find signing up thru the mail with Navy Federal confusing? We got 982 pieces of mail and were confusing as all get out.... Did anyone else feel this way . Another question, did you get a Financial POA as well as a standard POA.... I know you are all where we are in the scheme of this exciting roller coaster ride. I know there have been alot of tears, because i am in tears even as i write this to you all .  god bless and a big Navy mom hug to all of you . We are all in this together. We can get thru this. We raised Sailors in the greatest Naval force in the world,afterall.... Dont know you personally but love you all!!!

Foursons1angel - I know what you are feeling my son leaves for BC on Dec. 9 - he was originally leaving in April 2014.  So this was a big jump forward on the calendar.  I too, like many of the Moms on here, have so many emotions going on now.  I've been crying lots and praying even more.  God is really testing my faith.  But I'm going to have faith that all will be well and keep thinking of all the positives involved.  The website/blog has really helped me - nice to know I'm not going thru this alone - that other Moms feel the same way.  Trying so hard to stay strong for my son.  :)

My son will be leaving for BC on Dec. 11. He was originally supposed to go in Jan. It is breaking my heart that he will not be popping into my room just to talk. I am starting to notice all the little things I take for granted knowing that time is moving swiftly toward that date. He is such a good kid. I REALLY didn't want him to make this decision and I tried everything to change his mind but I've come to accept that this is what he really wants and I am trying to read and learn all I can so I will feel that I am somewhat involved in his new life. I am very thankful for all the GREAT advice on this site. I've started making a list! I hate that feeling when you say, "if only I'd known."

Hello!  My son is leaving Dec. 11th for BC.  I don't even know where to start with the questions I have, I feel like my head is spinning with things to do and I don't know where to start.

Hi Everyone, my son is leaving Dec 11th for BC. I'm trying to get as much mother and son time in before he leaves. He is so excited, I am as well it's just hard to not cry. I think I'm going to need multiple boxes of Kleenex with me when I go to say good-bye. This site has been so helpful giving me the info I need to get him ready.
