Hello everyone and welcome to the Navy!!! This Group was started for the loved one of DEPPERS leaving in the month of December (although everyone is welcome).......What year you say? Well ......any year!

If you have December ship out issues/questions etc., need specific information, (or have some to share) or just want to talk to someone that is where you are, with a Recruit leaving for and arriving in BC in December, ...then this is the place to be. :-)

Remember, don't "miss 'em while you're with them!" :) Make the most of every precious moment together before they leave. This will be a big transition for both of you! We'll be here for you every step of the way...
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Things to do in the last month before your future sailor leaves (Click on the link.)

Once your recruit has arrived at RTC, the next stop here is to join the group Boot Camp for Moms (and loved ones)  Hangout and ask questions in this group until your form letter arrives.

***New news just out today (9/25/19) from the US Navy Recruit Training Command FaceBook page:
Attention families and friends of RTC: Previously, upon arrival to boot camp, recruits would box up their civilian belongings and ship it to their choice of destination. Our new procedure now has those boxes being stored locally and will be returned to the recruits the day before graduation. The new procedure went into effect this week beginning with Div. 409 in Training Group 52.

Approx two to three weeks after your recruit arrives you will receive the "Form Letter". The form letter will include their Ship# , DIV #, their mailing address, PIR date, and the Security Access Form. The Security Access form needs to be completed and sent back to your recruit ASAP. Keep this letter in a safe place, it has the information you will need.

The date that is on the form letter is the official date for your Recruit's Training Groups PIR (graduation), Things can always change for an individual Recruit (due to illness, injury, failure to pass a final test etc.)! So, we always recommend that you plan, if possible, to purchase Refundable or Exchangeable plane tickets.

After you have received the form letter, join the group for your recruits PIR. There you can ask questions about PIR, training, hotels etc. Those groups will be posted in the Boot Camp for Mom's group.

Thanks for joining us. We hope you will realize you are not alone, and will soon make new friends, plus feel supported and encouraged! :)

**It is very important that your future Sailor be physically fit prior to shipping to the RTC (these are new standards beginning 1/1/2018) and that he be able to pass an initial run test. See Navy Sets New Physical Fitness Standard to Start Boot Camp. "The initial run standard is evaluated on the 1.5 mile run of the first Physical Fitness Assessment (PFA) at boot camp. The initial run standard for male recruits will be 16 minutes 10 seconds and 18 minutes seven seconds for female recruits."

thanks, lemonelephant, you are ever so helpful!  btw, does he need to be a really good swimmer?  i was telling him that he should probably enrol in a swimming school.

Momisiops, the recruits are only outdoors when going between buildings. All training is indoors. They bundle up well when they go outside.

my son leaves on dec. 23rd for Great Lakes, so we will have an early Christmas celebration.  i heard that winter is really bad in Illinois, so I pray that the gets thru boot camp well.  does anyone know if boot camp activities are spent outdoors?

Hello, my daughter leaves for RTC on December 2, 2013.  She is the first in our family to chose a military career. I am so very proud of her; but, the reality that she will be leaving soon is beginning to really sink in. I appreciate the support of this website and forum.

Hello - my son leaves for his boot camp on Dec. 23rd -- first time ever that he would be away from home - sad but so proud of him pursuing his dream.  I've been reading the threads and find them reassuring, calming, helpful.  Thanks to all!  I still have a lot to read thru.

Recruits must have a phone card to make calls while at the RTC other than the "I'm here!" call upon arrival and calls for information or due to a problem. The "I'm here!" call is the last call the recruit makes from his/her cell phone and soon after that, the cell phone is packed in "the box" and sent home. There are no longer any phone banks at in-processing. Recruits do receive a phone card in their ditty bags and can buy them at the Nex, but they then have to activate the cards before making any calls, which takes time. You can purchase a phone card and activate it and send it with your future Sailor in his wallet or get free phone cards from http://callsforrecruits.org/. There is more on that in discussion, Things to Do in the Last Month Before Your Future Sailor Leaves for..., and in the Page, Phone Cards and Phone Calls, within Boot Camp Moms (and loved ones). I invite you to join Boot Camp Moms (and loved ones) and to start checking out the Pages (found under the pictures of the members) beginning with OPSEC and PERSEC (Making Changes to Your Profile) (there are some changes at the bottom that some of you need to make).

My son, Jared is leaving for boot camp on December 4th.  I am nervous, excited and already crying when i think of him leaving . I have three boys and he is the baby.  My middle one is speaking with army and marine recruiting at this time also so it a double whammy. ugh!! I am OVER THE MOON proud of him.  I am reading up and i am still a little confused regarding the phone card situation .  Is anyone else ?  I am so thankful to have found all of you and i pray for each of you and yours to be blessed.  We are from Springfield Illinois . Are there any other folks on here from our area.

My son is leaving for BC on December 5th.  I am getting that anxious and nervous feeling, but at the same time, I am so very proud of him.  He keeps saying he is really excited to go and he has always wanted to do this and that does help.  We all watched the BC video again the other day and I have to admit it brought tears to my eyes watching it this time...realizing it will be reality very soon!

My 18-yr. old son is leaving for BC on December 2nd...I'm starting to realize how much I have to learn and welcome the support available here.  When he joined in May, BC seemed such a long way off--now it seems just around the corner!

My son is leaving for BC Dec 3rd 2013. I am proud of him, but sad for me. Anyone from around Michigan that has a son/daughter going in Dec?
