Hello everyone and welcome to the Navy!!! This Group was started for the loved one of DEPPERS leaving in the month of December (although everyone is welcome).......What year you say? Well ......any year!

If you have December ship out issues/questions etc., need specific information, (or have some to share) or just want to talk to someone that is where you are, with a Recruit leaving for and arriving in BC in December, ...then this is the place to be. :-)

Remember, don't "miss 'em while you're with them!" :) Make the most of every precious moment together before they leave. This will be a big transition for both of you! We'll be here for you every step of the way...
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Things to do in the last month before your future sailor leaves (Click on the link.)

Once your recruit has arrived at RTC, the next stop here is to join the group Boot Camp for Moms (and loved ones)  Hangout and ask questions in this group until your form letter arrives.

***New news just out today (9/25/19) from the US Navy Recruit Training Command FaceBook page:
Attention families and friends of RTC: Previously, upon arrival to boot camp, recruits would box up their civilian belongings and ship it to their choice of destination. Our new procedure now has those boxes being stored locally and will be returned to the recruits the day before graduation. The new procedure went into effect this week beginning with Div. 409 in Training Group 52.

Approx two to three weeks after your recruit arrives you will receive the "Form Letter". The form letter will include their Ship# , DIV #, their mailing address, PIR date, and the Security Access Form. The Security Access form needs to be completed and sent back to your recruit ASAP. Keep this letter in a safe place, it has the information you will need.

The date that is on the form letter is the official date for your Recruit's Training Groups PIR (graduation), Things can always change for an individual Recruit (due to illness, injury, failure to pass a final test etc.)! So, we always recommend that you plan, if possible, to purchase Refundable or Exchangeable plane tickets.

After you have received the form letter, join the group for your recruits PIR. There you can ask questions about PIR, training, hotels etc. Those groups will be posted in the Boot Camp for Mom's group.

Thanks for joining us. We hope you will realize you are not alone, and will soon make new friends, plus feel supported and encouraged! :)

**It is very important that your future Sailor be physically fit prior to shipping to the RTC (these are new standards beginning 1/1/2018) and that he be able to pass an initial run test. See Navy Sets New Physical Fitness Standard to Start Boot Camp. "The initial run standard is evaluated on the 1.5 mile run of the first Physical Fitness Assessment (PFA) at boot camp. The initial run standard for male recruits will be 16 minutes 10 seconds and 18 minutes seven seconds for female recruits."

My son was sworn in today at MEPS Los Angeles.  It was an emotional time for his dad and I but we are so proud of him!!  He is on a plane to GL right now.  Should arrive in about 2 hours.  Looking forward to that last call.  And so this new journey begins....PS  the house is very quiet.  sigh

Arwen, 17??? The most I've seen is 15 divisions and the USS Midway Ceremonial Drill Hall was designed to hold 16 divisions, but yes, 4 guests and lots of others got in. There have been suggestions that the fire code was being violated when they allowed the numbers that they used to allow to enter. Yes, there has been a change in the command at the RTC as well.

Dropped off my son at the recruiters office at 4:30 this morning. He is on his way to GL now. I don't think it has hit me yet that I won't get to talk to him whenever I want. We are used to living apart as he has done college and then I moved from CA to AZ about 6 mths ago, but we always talk at least every other day. And I feel like I didn't get to spend enough time with him this past weekend. Well can't wait for his phone call and then Feb. for PIR.

MTRanchMom, there will be no extra tickets, period. They have gotten very strict on this, I'm not sure why. I've seen 17 divisions at one PIR, and everyone got four guests. But there is apparently some new management, or something "happened."

You are very welcome.

Dau3NavyNuke, yes, that might be a good idea.  If you have a phone call from the 847 area code, or US GOVERNMENT, or Private Call, or Restricted, or pay phone, or Withheld, be sure to answer!!! (It is possible that a Recruit could call from another area code as well--773, 224, 312, 872 are all area codes in that area.)  Now would also be a good time for you to join Boot Camp Moms and PIR Reference Information. Be sure to check out the Pages (found under the pictures of the Members) and Discussions within the groups.  When you get the form letter, be sure to join the PIR group.  It will either be PIR 01/25/2013 TG 11 - 9 Divisions (069-076 and 911) or PIR 02/01/2013. (The group names are clickable links.)

My son leaves tomorrow then flies to GL on Thursday.  The only thing he regrets is that he will miss the Notre Dame ECF championship game! LOL!  We will have to record it for him.  He was supposed to ship in June but got burned from exhaust on 4-wheeler.  He is soooo ready.  I'll miss him so much.

I got the box today, after I came home from work. I did have to sign for it, glad I was home. Phone, car keys, clothes, shoes, and a label from her new Navy tube socks. At least I know what she has on her feet! Lol!
