Hello everyone and welcome to the Navy!!! This Group was started for the loved one of DEPPERS leaving in the month of December (although everyone is welcome).......What year you say? Well ......any year!
If you have December ship out issues/questions etc., need specific information, (or have some to share) or just want to talk to someone that is where you are, with a Recruit leaving for and arriving in BC in December, ...then this is the place to be. :-)
Remember, don't "miss 'em while you're with them!" :) Make the most of every precious moment together before they leave. This will be a big transition for both of you! We'll be here for you every step of the way...

Things to do in the last month before your future sailor leaves (Click on the link.)
Once your recruit has arrived at RTC, the next stop here is to join the group Boot Camp for Moms (and loved ones) Hangout and ask questions in this group until your form letter arrives.
Approx two to three weeks after your recruit arrives you will receive the "Form Letter". The form letter will include their Ship# , DIV #, their mailing address, PIR date, and the Security Access Form. The Security Access form needs to be completed and sent back to your recruit ASAP. Keep this letter in a safe place, it has the information you will need.
The date that is on the form letter is the official date for your Recruit's Training Groups PIR (graduation), Things can always change for an individual Recruit (due to illness, injury, failure to pass a final test etc.)! So, we always recommend that you plan, if possible, to purchase Refundable or Exchangeable plane tickets.
After you have received the form letter, join the group for your recruits PIR. There you can ask questions about PIR, training, hotels etc. Those groups will be posted in the Boot Camp for Mom's group.
Thanks for joining us. We hope you will realize you are not alone, and will soon make new friends, plus feel supported and encouraged! :)
**It is very important that your future Sailor be physically fit prior to shipping to the RTC (these are new standards beginning 1/1/2018) and that he be able to pass an initial run test. See Navy Sets New Physical Fitness Standard to Start Boot Camp. "The initial run standard is evaluated on the 1.5 mile run of the first Physical Fitness Assessment (PFA) at boot camp. The initial run standard for male recruits will be 16 minutes 10 seconds and 18 minutes seven seconds for female recruits."

{{{{{jmomx4}}}}}} virtual hug---I am DEFINITELY feeling your pain. My son left on Thursday too from Miami. We stayed in the same hotel the night before, then went to MEPS about 9 the next morning. We then followed the van to the airport and got some lunch before he left. His girlfriend leaves on Tuesday to depart for RTC on Wednesday, so I have to do this again next week. We are a VERY close family as well... there is CONSTANT craziness, silliness and chaos which I am really going to miss. I really thought I could handle this better..but as I am doing laundry, for instance, I cant even look at a piece of his clothing without breaking down, much less even walk into his room. Without them both here, it is really gonna be rough through the holidays, I also have a daughter, 23 out of the house that lives close, and a 15 year old at home. I am just hoping that it gets better once I receive the box and a letter....we will all get through this together!
nwcheck sounds like our sons will be there together. We take our son to the recruiters office on the 12th and swearing in on the 13th. It has been a long journey but he is soooo ready to go. I am just wanting so time to spend with him before he goes. We had christmas with his sister last weekend but they all want to see him again this weekend and he has been spending his free time with his girlfriend, who is an hour away. I am feeling a little left out but I am trying to hold it together. So proud of him!
The phonecall came Tuesday evening, and now I just got the box. I was fine and feeling pretty positive until today. This is harder than I thought. But am so happy he's choosing his destiny!
Whoops... Wednesday 12/12...and leaving on the 13th...
Good Morning ! I have enjoyed reading all of the comments. I have laughed and cried right along with you. My son leaves from the Recruiter's office on Wed. 12/11 and then swearing in ceremony is 12/13. In discussion with his recruiter, we will meet them in Raleigh to have dinner and then be able to attend the ceremony on Thursday. We are undecided about going to the airport. I think that will depend on how much time he has to wait. Since my SR has graduated from college and this has been a lifelong dream, I know it will be difficult to not hear from him, but he is sooooo ready to go. Our holidays will be different too since we will be visiting our oldest child and her husband in Mississippi since they can't come home for Christmas, my SR will be with his new Navy family and my youngest will be with us for a few days but then back to Raleigh so she can attend her college's bowl game AND the one and only grandparent is going to Oregon to be with his other daughter. Changes all around! I think we are ready for our SR to go, but ask me how I am doing in January....that will be the real test! Thanks for "listening"!
